Sick baby

Damien's had a cold for over a week and a mild fever of 99.5-100 degrees for the past three days. He has an appointment in twenty minutes but I'm just a wreck. My older two never got sick this young so I'm freaking out. We've watched him closely over the last week for signs of breathing issues or high fever and he didn't have any of that which is why we let it go to a week. But gah I hate this!
Anyone else have this and it ended up just being a cold not worse?

Re: Sick baby

  • I'm sorry, I cant offer any advice accept to hang in there, lady! Nothing worse than a sick baby :( My son currently has a nasty cold (thank you, preschool) and I am working so hard trying to keep him out baby girl's face! He loves to kiss and hug her and I hate to discourage that! Good luck, mama--taking him to the pedi and keeping him comfy with snuggles is the best thing you can do for him! <3

  • @sarapagan thank you! Pedi said he sounds good and it seems to be just a cold. If he isn't better by Monday well start antibiotics. He ordered chest X-rays to be sure there isn't pneumonia setting in. If his temp reaches 102-103 we are to call.

Our oldest was was sent home from school yesterday for throwing up and then he did it again twice at home. I've had a cold go a few days but got sick not last night but the night before and I felt terrible all day yesterday and barely ate anything (probably the amount of one meal in the course of the entire day). Hopefully he gets better soon and these X-rays come back clear
  • Hoping for a speedy recovery for everyone in your house @midge519 !!!

I won't share my experience because my sons illness were more than just colds and I don't want to stress you out more. But I can tell you babies are much stronger than we give them credit for! My son has already battled 2 (what I thought were) pretty big illnesses since December and he is just fine and as happy as can be now.
Hang in there momma, I think it is harder on us than it is on them!
  • Thank you ladies!! @meganraschke I hope you're little guy doesn't get any more illnesses!!

Xray results came came back already and thankfully there isn't any bacterial infection or pneumonia. He has a viral infection but that's it. Doctor says it'll go away on its own and to call if it gets worse
  • Yes, we have been fighting at least 2 different viral upper respiratory (colds) since the end of December. They were brought in by my three year old. Luckily their lungs have remained clear and any fevers have remained mild. Poor baby's immune system is getting an early workout thanks to her big sister. I think I have been suffering in this more than they have, literally and figuratively. At least they can get the rest they need!
  • @Lbloom I hope your little one heals quickly! This whole older kids in school thing isn't too friendly to the babies. Thankfully today is the first time Damien's been miserable. Every other days he's been happy and talking. This morning was a screaming wakeup. I guess in the long run we know they'll have great immune systems lol
  • My LO has been congested for over a month now. At his 4 month checkup on Tuesday, the Pediatrician said he now has an ear infection And started him antibiotics. I didn't think we would be going thru this so early!!
  • Oh no@lindsay897! I hope his ear infection clears up quickly!! My oldest had lots of ear infections as a baby and they are no fun!
  • Thanks @midge519! I hope it clears up soon and the congestion too!
