Definitely call her pediatrician. My baby is formula fed too and we've had to switch her twice. She started out just regular infant Enfamil, then got switched to the gentlease, and now she's on Nutramigen which is Enfamil's cow milk allergy formula. She still farts a lot though (I think that's just in her genes  ) and in terms of being awake at night, she's been the same way the past few nights and the doctor said sometimes babies just have nights they can't sleep just like adults do. But yeah I'd call her doctor! They'll most likely ask you to bring in a dirty diaper to test her poo for any traces of blood which could mean her bowels are inflamed.

Edit: don't switch her formula without consulting the doctor first. Especially switching the brand! They say that could mess things up more.

  • She might also have her nights and days mixed up as well as having gas issues. Have you tried waking her up more during the day to feed? We won't let LO sleep more than 3 hrs at a time during the day between feedings. It took a couple of days but LO is appearing to be less fussy at night now. He's also exclusively formula fed. I agree with pp with not changing formulas until you talk to a dr.
  • Hope you don't mind me piggy-backing off of your question, but once you switch formulas, how long should you wait to see an improvement?
  • @BarrettJ89 I was told 4-5 days!
  • I agree with @scornwell717 about talking to your pediatrician.  DS was on 3 different formulas before we went to Nutramigen as well.  He was on Enfamil Gentlease and then Similac Sensitive and was having AWFUL gas pains, and not pooping.  His gas REEKED when he would pass it, as if he was really backed up. The Nutramigen has made him more regular and he still grunts and scrunches to pass gas, but he's much more comfortable doing so. For the 2 1/2 weeks we were on the other types of formula, I had to stimulate him with a thermometer and/or give him prune juice, just so he'd poop.  It was awful, and I know he was in pain.

The amount of formula out there; brands/types/ formats is SO over whelming, so start with your doctor first.  They may be able to give you some direction, as well as possibly some samples before you go crazy buying one brand, just in case you need to switch again.  I learned from stocking up on the Gentlease (had coupons galore) that it doesn't always pay to do that.
