Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Babies with Allergies

So, I had my daughter have blood work to check for allergies. She has a high allergy to milk which I figured. Some other things she's allergic to is:

Wheat
peanuts
eggs
soy
almond
cashew

What do you feed a child who has an allergy to wheat milk and eggs?
I was hoping she wasn't allergic to nuts. I would just give her almond milk or soy milk. My sister mentioned coconut milk. She didn't get tested for coconut. Anyone with the same situation? What did you do?

Re: Babies with Allergies

  • Is she on formula?  And eating solids?

  • I'm allergic to nuts including coconut so I'd be careful giving that.

Can you ask your Pedi or the allergist for diet suggestions?

  • Loading the player...
  • On wholefoods.com there's lists of meals for people with special diets. There is quinoa and rice pastas. Soy is tough because it's in like every processed food! I would also find an allergy specialist if you haven't already.
  • I have an allergist. She just gave me a list of foods to stay away from. What I need are ideas on what I can make for my LO other than just veggies and adding ground chicken to it. I wanted to try and get her use to eating chunks of food... Allergist told me to get my inner Martha Stewart going.. lol *sigh*
  • Combining my allergies and the allergies my nursing little one has, I have to avoid all the foods you listed except for wheat. (Also, citrus, strawberry, and shellfish)
Can she have oats? Oat milk isn't too bad, although it's not my favorite drink in the world.

When baking- 1/2 of a banana or 1/3 cup applesauce or puréed pumpkin can be a replacement for 1 egg in a recipe.  Water or juice can replace milk. There are gluten free flour options out there- a lot of them are tapioca or rice, I think.

I just end up eating a lot of vegetables, rice, potatoes, some meats/ fish.
Spices are great to make everything a little more interesting/ desirable. (Make sure you check spice lables, a lot of them have milk, wheat, or soy additives.)

i use the Yummly app to try to find new recipes as well. They have a section for adding in food allergies/dislikes, and will find you recipes avoiding those foods.

    Good luck!
  • Oh! And if you're looking for finger food options, look through the gluten free cereals (mostly rice based). And, corn tortillas torn into strips, maybe?

Thank You!! Both of these posts are very helpful. I should have come on here and checked my replies sooner. I just had her 1st Birthday and I had to make banana ice cream with the Yonanas machine in place of a cake. It was ok though, she loves the banana ice cream. Thanks again.

I didn't know they made oat milk. I will have to ask the allergist about this. I eat oatmeal. So I think it would be alright. I would really like to stop pumping. I don't know if she would consider drinking the oat milk. I may have to give her formula : /

I eat the same things too... veggies fruit rice and potatoes. The allergist said to stay away from seafood. Which is a bummer because I really like it. It has great protein. Since my new diet my milk supply has decreased a lot. I am having issues getting the most milk like was before.
