Valentine's Day

I know LO is the best Valentines gift but anyone planning or putting together something for DH or the family? I'm thinking about doing handprints as a family activity!

  • I am giving my hubby a framed photo for his office and writing him a love letter, hoping for a yummy dinner whether we go out just us or all of us or stay in, he buys things for himself often but everyone always appreciates words of love and appreciation
  • My DH is going to snowmobile races like he does every year. So it will be just my Little Man and I.
  • I will be away, my grandmother is stopping dialysis, so me and little one are flying home, to see her before she passed away.  Hubby and toddler are probably coming when it comes time for the funeral so if we are together it will be for my grandmothers funeral :-/
  • There's a pretty good V-Day inspiration thread over on the D15 board, too. We are going to stay home and make dinner together and probably watch a movie.  The last couple of years we've laid low for V-Day.  I used to be a bartender and would always have to work Valentines Day, so we'd typically celebrate it the night before or after, sometimes even the weekend before.

Last year we made homemade chicken fried rice and it was really good.  We haven't made it since and I mentioned it to DH last night.  He said, it sounded really good again, so I think we will do that.

I try to buy him something different that he would never think to buy himself. He is a huge gear head and into cars, tools, and fabrication.  He's a welder by day and has his own garage where he works on his own car projects and for other people too.  I bought him a set of coasters that are made by this company that makes wheels/rims.  They are actually really neat, and I know he is going to love them. https://rotiform.myshopify.com/products/rotiform-wheel-coasters

  • We're celebrating a couple days early by going to see Deadpool! We had decided months ago that we wouldn't do gifts this year since money is so tight but I LOVE the footprint heart idea..maybe I'll put it together while he's working  :p
  • Nothing. We dont celebrate valentine's day because its my SO adoption day(its like a second birthday) plus our anniversary is on the 17th and we can do all that stuff then.
  • I'm doing an "I *heart* you, daddy" graphic with her feet as the heart like shown above. I do feel slightly like a genius though because I came up with it myself haha.
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • @kmo8986I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother

@maureenmceno idea if it was related to the Chinese food but my birthday was about 7 days after baby was born and we got Chinese to celebrate.  That was the baby's worst night of sleeping - we are steering clear of anything other than steamed no sauce onion and garlic free Chinese for a bit
  • No plans. DD's birthday is the 13th so we try to keep those days all about her. (Especially now that Christmas will heavily revolve around DS's birthday) My uterus really likes holidays...
  • I am totally stealing this idea- thanks! Are you buying red ink to do this? @Trisham1201

    Lilypie Pregnancy tickers
  • @ChrissyD1203 - thanks for the heads up, re: Chinese food!  Maybe I'll stick to something more bland like pizza, just to be safe.  :)
  • Valentines day is our 1 year wedding anniversary so it will be our first day out without the baby. We will go to lunch and see a play. Im thinking of stealing some of your foot print ideas though. So cute! Is there a certain kind of paint to get that washes off easily?
  • I was planning to use red water based paint to do the print. I read it's safe and easy to get off as long as you wash it off right away.  I am planning to do it when LO is full and happy and not as animated, hehe.  Should be interesting!!!
  • I recommend getting an ink pad instead of paint. It's much less messy.
  • I am a children's art teacher. For anyone planning on doing footprints I would recommend using liquid tempra paint. It is safe on skin and washes out of clothes. Also for hand or foot prints you have to keep baby really still and press down hard on fingers and toes. It is really tricky to get a good print of of a small infant. Toddlers are much easier.
