I searched and couldn't find any similar topics. Is anyone planning on keeping a bed in their nursery for guests? Baby could use the pack and play when guests stay in that room and having a bed in the room would help with late night feedings when I'm trying to not wake up my husband and I want to be comfy.
We currently have 2 guest rooms. Occasionally, we use both rooms at the same time and it's a god send! Both of our families and most of our friends live hours away, so when we have guests, we have lots of guests, overnight, for several days. (My husband is military) I'm torn. We could just leave the bed/frame in the basement and set it up as needed (3-4x a year) or just leave it up all the time. Thoughts? What are you planning on doing?
Re: Nursery AND Guest Room in one?
One of my friends was in a similar situation as you (H in the military) and she had a twin in the nursery for her mom when she came to help her out.

I don't even know where I'll be living yet because I have to first pack up my existing house and life, emigrate cross-continent and then find a new place to rent with my fiancé! Eek! Fun times.

If there was room for both the crib and the twin bed in the room, I would have just kept them both in there and kept the baby out when we had guests.

We moved from a northern BC city to an area that's a really desirable vacation destination and easier for our extended families to get to, so we've had a huge increase in visitors in the past year. At first I loved it but it's getting to be a bit much, and I don't think we'll be able to accommodate it much longer in our current house. Hopefully we can move to a bigger place this summer - we'll see!! I'd love to have a designated guest room.
Obviously, you like having a guest room. Just keep in mind as baby gets older that it needs to be childproofed and she may eventually be upset about being kicked out/you may not want to cosleep with an older child.
Both his office and my closet now have to go in the tiny master. I will continue to work at the kitchen table. I think we will just have to put guests on an air mattress somewhere or sofa city, sister
DD stayed in our room for the first 4 months, but after that, she could never sleep in the same room as us. If she sees us, she thinks it's playtime because she's used to her own space maybe? Anyways, no one sleeps. FX this baby is not as particular, but I'm planning on it just to be prepared.
We're planning on keeping the current bed in the guest room while my mom is here after the baby arrives and will have the baby in a pack-n-play in our room for the first few months. I guess we'll have to figure out how to put another dresser in our room for the baby's clothes but it's going to be a pretty tight fit.
Our families live very far away so when they do visit, they are going to need a bed to sleep on (unless we put them in a hotel). After my mom and ILs visit, we'll think of setting up a crib in the guestroom, selling the current bed that we have in there and switching to a sofa bed. That way when we do have guests, we'll attempt to move the crib into our room and see how that goes. I'm hoping that we move to a house with at least 3 bedrooms within the next 2 years or so!
One of my close girlfriends had a daybed in the nursery that they had intended on using for guests as needed, but she ended up sleeping in there quite a bit between naps/nights, particularly in the early months. They did not do a P&P in their bedroom, b/c her husband was a surgery resident, and he had a very odd sleep schedule. Plus, when his pager would go off, it would wake up the baby!

However, the bed would stay for two reasons only. First, I love the bed and don't want to pay to store it. It's custom made so no way is it being tossed. Second, I think it would be good for either me or DH to allow him a good nights rest until the baby is sleeping longer stretches. His work requires extreme focus.
*ETA- because we are in the heart of the city, guests can feel free to stay in one of the 30+ hotels in our immediate neighborhood alone.
