  • My son will be almost 4 when 2.0 arrives. He's starting Pre K full time in the Fall. I think thats about all the milestones he'll be hitting.

  • DS is 2.5 now and will be just over three when this baby arrives. He's got potty training down, but we need to get him into a big boy bed. I just asked him if he wanted a big boy bed and he went, "Nooooooo!" Which is exactly how I feel about it too!

  • My sassy DD will almost 3 when this little bundle arrives, they may even share a birthday. We need to get her into a big girl bed. She has actually been asking for one since she now can use the big girl potty... We will be starting her in preschool soon too, but we really need to focus in on sharing and understanding that she will now have to share mommy and daddy...
  • DD is 2.5 and potty trained and we just moved her into a big girl bed a few weeks ago.  I wanted to avoid that transition while pregnant!  I don't know if there's any milestones I want her to hit before this baby comes, but I'm definitely a little nervous (and sad, to be honest) about how she'll react to having to share our attention.  She's definitely the center of our world right now and it's hard to imagine having another one here, but I think she'll love it...eventually. ;)

  • I would like mine to be potty trained and possibly putting herself to sleep by October. She's 20 months now.
  • @mommatobeagain2016 it was a loooong battle getting our little girl to put herself to sleep.  We rocked her to sleep until she was probably 18 months.  It was a tough habit to break, but once we did omg.  It felt like we got so much freedom back.  Good luck, I know how hard it can be!

  • My little one will be almost 2y/o when Baby 2 comes around. Trying to figure out how ambitious we will get with potty training and a big boy bed before Baby gets here b
  • DD will be 2.5 when baby arrives.  We are hoping to transition her to a toddler bed and start potty training.  Anyone have any suggestions for either?  I love her in her crib because she is confined, but we'd like to use that crib for the new LO.

  • I would love to get DS potty trained, but he won't even be two and a half when this baby comes and I am not going to try till after his second bday.

Also, I want him to be in his new big boy room and new bed. That way we can keep the nursery more baby themed and use his old crib.

  • Same lol I also love mind in her crib. She sleeps well and doesn't complain or try to get out!

  • @Lauren0216 for potty training bribery worked for us, lol.  Specifically m&ms.  DD had zero interest in using the potty until we offered her an m&m.  That said, it's not something I'd force, it tends to backfire.  But if she's open to sitting on the potty, a little bribery can't hurt.  ;)
We were really lucky transitioning to a big girl bed.  DD has actually never tried to get out of it, she just waits until we come get her after nap and in the morning when she wakes up.  We have her bed pushed up against the wall, and then on the other side under the sheet we have one of these bumpers.  I think it's made her feel secure like she was in her crib.  Every kid is different, but that's what worked for us, good luck!

Thanks so much for the advice!  My DD LOVES m&ms so I think that would be great reinforcement!  We had originally bought one of those cribs that transitions to a toddler bed and then a full size bed, but we will probably just get her a new toddler bed early (maybe around her 2nd birthday) because I don't want her to think that the baby is taking her crib that she loves so much..ha!  The bumper is a great idea!

I def don't want to push her to have to grow up too fast, but it would be nice if she could be just a bit more independent before baby.  I now have her climbing down the stairs backwards by herself ... little wins for me!  :)

  • I would really love it if my (will be) 4-year-old could dress himself by the time baby is born but that's about it. He's also still wearing pull-ups at night but I'm betting that'll change here in a couple of months.

My 1 year-old on the other hand.....I don't think we will reach any milestones by October (he'll be almost 2 by then). We're hoping to transition him to a big bed a few months after he turns 2 so we can give the crib to the baby. We'll keep a bassinet in our room until then. :)

We just let the potty training thing slide when our second was born. Our oldest just wasn't ready (he was 2.5). You're already changing a ton of diapers anyway, so it's no big deal!

We did get him in a big boy bed before our second came along. He did great. We let him pick out his sheets and a night light to get him excited to sleep in it.

See I feel like it is a big deal! We do cloth so that means doubling the laundry if he is still in diapers, which is no fun. We will see though :)

  • My daughter is 8.5 months. She will be 1.5years when LO is born. She's working on crawling(she's still going backwards) and standing.
  • DS is not potty trained, but he's not ready I don't think. I learned with my daughter that you can't force it (or any other milestone). I'm not going to bother before baby, because last time DD just regressed horribly right after DS arrived. It was frustrating so I'm letting it go.

  • Our son is almost 4 and no major milestones to hit before the second comes along. He has been potty trained day and night for awhile and it a big boy bed as well. I am hoping that he will learn how to climb into his car seat and buckle and unbuckle himself and dress himself fully before the second one comes.

  • DD is 8 and DS is 6. I would say this is the golden age of parenting,  so far. They are still sweet and eager to please mama without much attitude yet.  I haven't told them yet, but they will be thrilled when they find out they're getting a sibling. They're already potty trained (tbh DS still has accidents at night a couple times a month, and I just have a mattress protector and don't make too much of a fuss about it when it happens.  He'll grow out of it and making him embarrassed will only aggravate the situation), they dress themselves,  and in a pinch they can make their own meals (cereal,  sandwich,  etc).  I guess household chores will be their milestone.  I would love for them to start helping with dishes and laundry now, especially DD because I was her age when my mother gave me those responsibilities.

I already know they'll be eager to help with the baby, and it gives me the warm and fuzzies.

  • Oldest will start kindergarten, middle son will start preschool. I won't be in a rush to potty train my daughter because diapers are SO much easier to manage than potty training. Even with 2 in diapers. Plus if they aren't ready, it will be hell. Don't force it.

  • Just call me crazy. My 13m old is asleep in my bed, he hasn't slept in his crib since 6 months old.
Every night I try for the crib, but H doesn't mind co-sleeping since DS sleeps through the night and is the snuggliest little guy ever. We're not sure if we're going to force the issue, so we'll keep going at it one day at a time. Also working on walking. He hasn't let go of anything yet, but he's getting closer and closer each day.
