I've heard about this and have seen it first hand on my LO but I caught it very quickly. I always check his fingers, toes and his penis because the story I heard actually had a hair wrapped tightly around there. One of my DS2's nurses told me her niece had one down to the bone.
I shed so much after I give birth and LO is always grabbing my hair that I'm constantly finding them in weird places. It really should be part of the standard baby crying checklist I don't think it's too uncommon.
This is SO important to check. My little guy had a hair tight around one of his toes. Thankfully I got it off, but it did cut his toe a little bit. I check every time I change his clothes. So it wasn't there in the am but was there when I took his socks off to put on jammies. Oh my gosh I was flipping out. My #3 also had a hair around his penis before. That was terrifying too, and again thankfully we got it off. All these freak things, uggh.
Thank you for this information! My hair is constantly falling off and its everywhere around the house I am going to have to start putting up when I am home. Now I will be more aware of this.
My hair falls off everywhere, and we cosleep, so I always check her fingers. But this actually happened to her toes inside a footed sleeper!! Must've had hair in it from laundry (it was fleece, probably stuck to it in the dryer). It cut her poor toes like paper cuts all around
@ElleMF728 I'm going to have to start checking lo regularly. Down to the bone?! Yikes! That's scary My hair was falling out in clumps so I went and shaved about 90% of my hair off because lo would grab my hair and she'd have a handful of it! Guess it was a blessing in disguise. I agree! It should be apart of the checklist! @momofsweetps I would be flipping out too! Usually I can be calm, cool, and collected when it comes to emergencies but with DD it's totally different!
@rosalbap2 You're welcome! I thought maybe since I didn't know, maybe there were other moms that didn't know as well! Parenting should come with a manual
@ForeverEverAfter oh my gosh! That's so nuts how it happened! Was this recent? How are her little toes now?
Edited because spelling is hard in the middle of the night.
My LO loves to put his hands in my long hair. Pony tail or bun doesn't stop him from finding it either. I always check his penis(mainly for diaper fussy stuff), hands and toes! I didn't actually realize thing was a thing though!!! Thank you for the information!!!
My son had multiple hairs wrapped around his penis, they weren't tight but I probably noticed it quickly because I had be warned about this… I check at every diaper change and whenever he is losing his mind I always take off his diaper to check!
