Daycare anxiety/GERD

so I have taken 8 weeks off and my husband will take 1 week before we put our LO in daycare. I am concerned/anxiety about putting the LO in due to his acid reflux. We have him on medicine but still needs to be held upright after feedings for 30 min. Very concerned if the daycare employees will be able to give him the attention that he needs. Anyone else experience this anxiety and how have you worked through it.

Re: Daycare anxiety/GERD

  • Yes! I thought I was going crazy or something. You read so much about babies dying in day cares because they weren't being watched properly or abused. I'm scared to bring LO to daycare bc he wants to nurse 24-7, be held and spits up ALOT. I've already brought him to the doctor but she says bc he's gaining weight and having a good amt of wet diapers she's not concerned. But even still, the anxiety of leaving them alone with someone else terrifies me.

  • The most important thing here is finding a daycare that you absolutely love and trust, and one that knows your expectations. Once you're confident with that, everything will work out fine. I promise. Daycare providers have seen and been through everything. You'll be amazed at things they can do to soothe your kid.

  • Have you talked to the daycare about it? That would be my biggest suggestion. They'll be able to tell you how well they feel they can deal with it and how they would try to go about it.
  • Anxiety 24/7 about this. I am a mess. A read a thread on N15 about her poor LO left inconsolable to cry for 20 minutes and another one about observing a different baby also left crying in a crib and just solidified my decision to not do it. I can't. I'm losing sleep about it. I bit all my nails off. I need to find a nanny that I trust in 3 weeks or I he to quit my job which will put me into a depression because I don't want to quit. Ahhh I'm with you!
  • I also have anxiety about this because little Lyncoln is pretty high maintenance. She cries a lot and wants to be held a lot and I am worried the sitter is just going to let her cry it out and that kills my heart! But I also am worried for the sitter too that she will go crazy! Luckily Lyncoln is her only one aside from 2 days per week she also has a 1 year old.
  • My LO also has reflux. I decided to extend my leave by an extra month in hopes that he will require a little less TLC as his digestive system matures. Instead of taking 12 weeks, I'm taking 16. I might go into a bit of debt because of it but it just seemed like the right thing to do.
