Playing with toys

lo is 10 weeks and doesn't grab on to toys or put teether toys in his mouth or anything. He grabs onto my hair and my shirt and his blankets, but seems uninterested in toys except for looking up at the fish on his play mat. He will follow a toy with his eyes but that's about it! I see so many people posting about their babies playing with toys I just want to make sure he's not the only one who'd rather look at mommy than play with toys!

Re: Playing with toys

  • My LO is 12 weeks. This past weekend she went from unclinched but unproductive hands to grabbing pages when I read her a book and intentionally pushing buttons on her musical toys...she even aims for the foot keyboard we mounted to the end of her crib!  It happened over the course of a few days and when she was in her 11th week.  That said, she still looks the happiest when we are locking eyes and smiling at eachother.

Maybe just this moms bias talking. ;)

  • Silas is 11 weeks Wednesday. He'll bat at toys from his playmat  but he isn't grabbing toys yet. Just my hair.
  • Zeke is pretty uninterested in playing or grabbing toys. His feet kick at the bar on his play mat to make things jiggle above his head but that's it. He likes observing more than playing. He's 11 weeks. I figure I'll just keep giving him opportunities and toys to play with and let him interact with them when he's ready
  • LO is almost 10 weeks and just started grabbing at things, mainly things he shouldn't. Like hair, glasses, lips and ears!
  • Mine is 12 weeks and she mostly will hold onto a toy if we put it in her hand, sometimes she will reach overhead to touch her mobile. Like pp said she mostly likes looking at our funny faces and watching things.
  • Cecily is 9.5 weeks and will grab at fingers and clothing and her binkie tether, but mostly just looks at her toys on the baby gym and coos at them.
  • My 11 week old does not grab at toys yet. He is interested, but doesn't grab. Every baby learns at their own pace, please don't worry! A difference of a few weeks is not a cause for concern. ;-)
  • I wouldn't worry. My DD went from being seemingly uninterested in toys one day to grabbing and pulling everything to her mouth the next. It was a really quick development! Amazing how they learn.
  • Thanks everyone! Makes me feel better!
  • Wyatt is 13 weeks & just started deliberately reaching for toys, mostly we still 'play' by making faces at & talking to him
  • Emmett is 13 weeks (tomorrow) and his favorite thing to "play" with is an MSU Spartan green/white scarf...he also loves his brup cloth that has dots on it!  We have othrr toys and he will grab at them but loses interest real quick but the scarf and burp cloth can entertain him for quite a while...like other PP's have said he also enjoys making funny faces! I'm actually glad he isn't into toys yet - faces, burp rags and scarves are a lot cheaper!
