SUPER itchy skin! Anyone else?

Over the last week or so my skin has started getting soooooo itchy! It's mainly on my belly, which makes sense given how stretched out that skin is getting, but my legs (mostly calves) and arms (near my elbows) are super itchy too at times. Anyone else experiencing this? I'm not really overly concerned, but I do plan to mention it at my appointment on Thursday. It's just so uncomfortable! And of course scratching makes it worse . . . but I can't help it! Ugh I need to just take an oatmeal bath already lol!

Re: SUPER itchy skin! Anyone else?

  • It could be PUPPPS. I had it from 10 weeks up to delivery. It can get pretty itchy. I ordered "grandpas pine tar soap" and it seems to help. Smells like a camp fire, but takes the itch away for a few hrs. Your OB may give you cortisone cream as well. The good thing with PUPPPS is it goes away with delivery. Good luck!

  • Oh yeah, I've been itchy for weeks. My OB tested for colestasis but my results came back normal.

My feet, hands, ankles, upper arms, and back of my knees have been the worst and make me want to take steel wool to my skin. I'm so ready for the itching to stop. I woke up at 3 a.m. the other other night because it was so bad.

I have found that putting lotion on helps a LOT. My husband has been rubbing lotion into my feet the last few nights and applying pressure while doing so and it feels so much better. Then I put on those super soft socks and sleep in them and it really helps keep the itching to a minimum.

@funkypineapple YES back of the knees too! Lotion helps a little for me, but not enough. And @jenniv82 thanks for the suggestion! I wouldn't mind smelling like camp fire, I actually love that smell! Maybe I'll get some of that!
  • Had PUPPPs with my first and thought I might be in the clear since it's typically for first pregnancies... nope! After a couple random days of itching, the first sign of PUPPPs came barreling through on Sunday morning. Just knowing what the next three weeks, plus however long it last after delivery with this one, has in store makes me so anxious, mad, sad, etc.! Lot of emotions haha PUPPPs a horrible horrible side effect to pregnancy and I'm just beside myself right now... and it's only day 2. Talk to your doctor about the itching and if you develop tiny red bumps inside your stretch marks, it could be PUPPP. Good luck!

  • Its weird I get itchy everynight as soon as I lay down but i'm fine throughout the day. It drives me crazy because it doesn't start until i'm ready for bed but doc said just to take some benedryl or try anti-itch cream
  • @mamacastro I'm always more itchy at night too, although my stomach is itchy all day. But my legs etc. seem the worst right before I go to bed. Last night they were awful!
  • Last night I was ready to tear my legs and arms up it was so bad
  • I've been putting aquaphor or vaseline on my belly and I mixed frankincense oil and fractionated coconut oil together and smooth that on too. And I shower every other day. Works wonders compared to my first pregnancy!
  • I have also had itching that just started a few weeks ago, and only at night! glad its nojust stme imagining it. Pregnancy does such weird things to us
  • Wicked itchy belly here. I just started using mederma stretch mark cream, which is really moisturizing and is helping a little bit with the itch.
  • I'm itchy but I always have dry skin especially in colder weather. But it is annoying. I try not to scratch but to rub. I also been using a dove body wash and I always apply aveeno lotion.
  • I have found that oil does the trick. Lotion is nice but usually won't cut it. First I used bio oil but I just ran out. It's 20$ a bottle and I didn't want to spend the money. However I've found that Palmers oil for stretch marks is pretty cheap and works just as well. I apply it every morning and night and shower once a day also. The itching has been wayyy better since. When I ran out of the bio oil I used lotion for a couple days but I got so incredibly itchy I went back to the oil and it's been better ever since.

  • I made a sugar scrub recently and have been taking warm baths and using the sugar scrub before bed and have found it works wonders. I just mixed 1 cup of sugar with 1/2 cup of coconut oil, lemon zest from half a lemon, 1 tbs lemon juice and I added peppermint essential oil and lemon essential oil (about 1 tsp of each). Rub it on while you're in the bath and let it rinse off. It's quite nice...

Then I also use beautycounter brand body butter on my belly - it's mild but effective (with no dangerous chemicals).

Also check your laundry detergent and what you're using for dryer sheets. I found switching to an all natural scent free detergent (that I actually bought for baby) has helped. I used "Charlie's soap" I think is what it's called - bought from Amazon and all natural handmade lambs wool dryer balls in place of dryer sheets, also from Amazon. I don't know if that made the difference at all, but can't hurt to try! I was going crazy with itchiness for a week and it's just the worst...

    Good luck! :)
  • My skin felt so dry and itchy, it was making me crazy. I used this little remedy of mixing brown sugar and olive oil in a bowl to make a body scrub. It feels really good, but it's messy. If anyone decides to try it, PLEASE be careful and put washcloths under your feet in the shower so you don't slip. The olive oil makes the tub floor very slippery, so you'll have to wash it out afterward. It's a production, but it feels so nice.
