TTC After a Loss

Spotting on cycle day 14? Still negative opk's.

I'm still trying to figure out my cycle since my d&c November 25th. I bled for a good 10 days after. Got what I thought was my period January 5th. Light bleeding for two days. Then got what I was positive was my period on the 17th. Light bleeding for 4 days. Actually had cramping and sore boobs. I figured I'd completed a cycle and things would get back on track. Then yesterday I started having mild cramping and today I have enough spotting that I feel like the flood gates could open at any moment. I used to have a perfect 28 day cycle and ovulation always fell within a couple days of the mid cycle mark.

I understand I should be temping and will go get a thermometer today......... And I realize this could be spotting from ovulation but with everything being so weird with my body these last few months I'm doubtful.

I'm just wondering if anyone had similar experience with such craziness in their cycle regulating after a loss. I know in the grand scheme of things it's still so soon and these things sometimes take time... But I'm ready to start trying for real!

  • And I'm sorry if these questions get asked 500 times but I know we're all desperate and ready to get the show on the road. I'm just so frustrated with my body. It's done nothing but let me down. I was positive this was our weekend to start trying.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. I understand your frustrations. FWIW, after my D&C in December I bled on and off for a while for a period of 3 weeks, and then started my first actual AF at day 27. It is not uncommon for previously "regular" cycles to be askew after MC, and everyone is different. That being said, without temping, you cannot be sure ovulation did occur or occurred previously when you believed it to. OPKs are a useful adjunct but do not confirm that ovulation actually occurs. I urge you to lurk some previous posts. This topic is discussed quite often here and there's lots of good info on here. Best wishes in 2016 for you.

Thank you. I'm scrolling through and realize this post is pretty unnecessary. Just waking up to blood after all the blood I've already dealt with it was like a sharp knife. I know I don't have to explain this to anyone here.

I hate this. I hate that we even have to have these conversations. But I am thankful for everyone here. My husband doesn't get it. Yes he experienced the loss too but he doesn't understand how I feel. It's so nice to have a place to go to get it all out.

  • @jenmlangtake2 - creepy internet hugs - I'm only at the start of my second cycle so I don't have much to go on, but my cycle was certainly longer and a bit wonky in terms of variable temperatures pre-ovulation and a short luteal period. Your spotting could be any number of things - but hopefully it settles down soon and makes itself a bit more understandable.

  • Out of curiosity, do you know it your hcg returned to zero?
  • Hi @jenmlangtake2, you might have already looked around the board for similar stories - I can link you to mine if you'd like, but I think it's still decently close to the front page. In short, it's taken me almost three months and a course of progesterone to get back on track. I technically still don't know if I've returned to normal, but it's looking better this cycle - knock on wood.

It's truly awful being reminded of what we went through every time you go to the bathroom, not to mention the lack of control that is felt when your body won't cooperate. I'm so sorry you're having to go through it. If I were you, I'd talk to my doctor. They should be able to tell if you're a candidate for some sort of hormone therapy (like progesterone) to kick start your cycle back into gear. Secondly, if you're not temping and monitoring CF, consider starting it. It's given me some semblance of minor control and it makes me feel proactive.

Big creepy internet hugs to you, I know exactly what you're going through. FX you get back to normal soon!

  • I think every body is different and every loss is different.  I never had mid cycle spotting until after my losses.  It doesn't happen every cycle, but has on a few of them.  Hope everything evens out for you soon!

  • It sucks because you want to be back to normal ASAP and it feels like your body is just drawing it out unfairly. There really is a HUGE bell curve of normal post-loss. I'm not a doc, but I'm pretty sure you're well within range.

Proactive things you can do: I'm with @ThePax89 , maybe ask your doc to get your hcg tested for residual. Please chart temps (it's great you're getting a BBT today!), CM, CP (if you're past the tampon/sex ban).

Assuming where you are with a guaranteed abnormal cycle off a history of predictable cycles without a chart is like finding your way around your own house with a blindfold after someone relocated every piece of furniture you own. You'll just end up with bruises everywhere emotionally speaking.
  • I had my MC in August. I felt like I was back to regular when my cycle started in October, however this past cycle gas been crazy.  I spotted for 5 days before AF and 2 days after. And I just finished my FW today and I had spotting twice during the window, right close to ovulation. I've never had that.  So I don't know if I'm just STILL not regular or what. After this TWW I'm going to start temping  (unless I get my BFP this month!).
