My best friend is graciously letting us borrow two bouncers and a Rock'n'Play as well as other goodies... Is a wing necessary as well? Hers broke and I'm wondering if it's worth it to put it on the registry.
I would register for it. If someone wants to buy it great! You don't have to use it right away and if your baby is content with the other items you can exchange it for something you need. My DS didn't like the original swing we registered for but loved the Rockeroo. I think we got our money's worth out of that thing!
We got one second hand and my son loved it for naps. It worked great to soothe him when nothing else would. We also were gifted a mini swing that I would set up in the bathroom sometimes so I could get a shower in or that we would take with us if we were going to be at someone's house at nap time. We might not bother getting a big swing this time though. He's going to be napping in his room anyway, since my toddler will be up and playing downstairs, so I'd like for him to nap in his crib up there since I won't be able to supervise the entire time. Also I'm not sure that all the naps in the swing were good for forming good sleep habits in general. My first son required rocking/strolling/driving for a long time to fall asleep. If this guy will just nap in his crib without all the motion, that's probably best. If we end up needing a swing, I'll get it second hand again. They grow out of them at around 6 months old.
My son hated his bouncer and loved his swing. It really depends on the baby. I would register for it, you will be surprised how many people like to go in on or get you a big gift. If you have many other things you need to register for, I would look into second hand or craigslist!
How much room do you have in your house? If you've got room, I'd put it on the registry and if someone buys it, just don't put it together until baby is here and you know if you want/need it. (I'd open the box and make sure all the parts are there, though.) If no one buys it, no worries -- then you just wait and see if you think you want to buy one later on.
ETA: I didn't register for one, and my husband ended up making an emergency trip to BRU a week or two postpartum. Turns out we did "need" one (if you consider preservation of sanity a need, which I do!)
yeah - we're not swimming in extra room. But it's not a tiny house either. I think we are going to hold off at first. We have some other big ticket items on our registry I'd prefer people get us....
My little one hated being put down in anything other than our swing! And that includes hating the Rock n play! I love the swing for the first 4-5 months more than anything! Also our motor stopped working and Fisher Price replaced it for free, all I did was call.
It really depends on what baby likes. You can hold off for now. I would recommend buying one used. Since most babies use them for such a short time you can usually find one at a consignment sale for 1/3 of the retail price.
DS1 Wouldn't sleep anywhere but on me or in his swing until 6 months. Naps included. FB swap groups are the best for finding a good used one, or a place like Dirt cheap, if you have one of those
Re: A swing too? (registry question)
I'd probably register and if someone else buys it, awesome. If not, I'd wait and see if your LO doesn't like the RnP or bouncers, then get one.
Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!
