so i just had my group b test done..she also gave me a requisition for a hematology profile ..i didnt notice and didnt get to ask why....is this normal?
I had both done at my 36 week appointment. I wasn't told i was getting the group b strep test till I got in room, and the nurse came to draw blood when I was getting ready to leave. It caught me off guard, but results came back fine.
Hmmm... I tested positive for Group B back at the beginning of this but no blood work has been ordered since second trimester. And with all the blood work ordered at the beginning of pregnancy, I don't recall if there was follow-up orders to me testing positive. This makes me wonder if there is a one-time follow-up order or new onset orders or my OB just doesn't do that. Thanks for bringing this up because I will ask at my next appointment.
@BabySeaTurtles I just had my Group B testing and was reading up on it waiting for results. From what I read, it says that if you have ever tested positive for Group B at any time during your current pregnancy, they typically do not retest you and you are automatically going to get the antibiotic treatment before labor. Not sure if that's what you were talking about or more so the blood.
For my testing, I only had the swab, didn't have any blood drawn. Don't think either way is abnormal though.

Thanks for checking on this! I was talking about the blood work orders though. I have already been told that I will not be swabbed (totally fine with me!) and since I do have to be on antibiotics during labor I will be admitted as soon as contractions hit 5-1-1 regardless of progress or, obviously, if my water breaks. No blood work orders for anemia though.
Re: 37 weeks group b test... And blood profile ordered?
