  Nope, you can ride that one out for weeks like that.  If your doctor isn't worried, then don't add any extra stress in your life.

  @skruhminmin is right, doesn't indicate imminent labor or delivery.  You can be high and tight and go into labor just as well as be slightly dilated and effaced and stay that way for weeks and weeks.  This is why weekly internals are no longer the norm.

  here's your answer. if there was something to be concerned about, your doctor definitely would have told you. if he/she wasn't concerned, you shouldn't be either.

  Yup. I wouldn't be worried either.  Some women stay that way for weeks before going into labor. They would have kept you if they were concerned.

  I asked my doctor about this type of situation since my husband is totally unreachable during the day (he's an offshore commercial fisherman). We wanted to know if I was dilated if he should stay in from fishing (working) so he wouldn't miss our son being born. The doctor said that I could be dilated for days, weeks... He doesn't even check the cervix until 39 weeks because of this.

  It could go both ways... I was a 2 at about 33 weeks with my last pregnancy, he checked me because I was having pelvix pressure that was more than the norm. By my 36 week apt I had been to L&D twice and was sent home after being given fluids and magnesium to stale out labor. Contractions would always return and when they stopped I always had the uncomfortable pelvix pressure still... Finally at my 36 week apt durning a routine check we discovered I was 5cm and completely thinned, he stripped my membranes and I was sent from clinic to L&D. Gave birth to a sweet, 7.14 baby girl that evening:):) Listen to your body...

  Cool! Long line or trawl? I did some offshore fishing as a biological surveyer in another life. Those commercial fishermen work hard. Props to your husband! And to you for being pregnant when he's far away on a boat!

  Neither, he runs a lobster boat and they pull 2,500 lobster traps through out the week. We own a stone crab boat and he pulls 500 stone crab traps on his days off from lobstering. He used to rod and reel fish offshore on week long trips and would catch 1,000 lbs of fish that way, but stopped once we got serious so he could be home every day with me. 
  
  Its a tough life, my father was a commercial fisherman too. They're gone from before the sun comes up and get home when it's going down. Thankfully his "off season" is the same as my summer break from teaching so we will be able to do a lot of family things during those 3 months.

  Don't stress about it! With my first, I was 2cm dialated for over a month. My dr said I would probably be a little early but nothing scary. I delivered ds at 38 weeks, healthy and no complications. Drink lots of water and try not to worry since that does not help.
