My baby girl is 5 weeks old. I've been breastfeeding since she born. She's had a bottle a couple times. She doesn't care for them much. Unfortunately I'm not able to pump very much so when I go back work she's going to have what I can pump and formula. She really doesn't care for the formula but I've been trying to get her used to it. Any suggestions on getting her used to the formula? And any suggestions on the best bottles and nipples for starting breastfed babies on bottles.
Re: Bottle feeding a breastfed baby
I've heard good things about Dr Browns bottles and Avent but I'm sure any would do. Good luck!
I was breast feeding and pumping. Now I am strictly formula. DS took to the bottle just fine though, so I never had to experiment with any other brand. We have the Dr Browns bottles and LOVE them. I like the wide neck bottles, but I do have a few of the Dr Browns Options bottles which are good too. The wide neck bottles are easier to hold and DS tends to make a better seal around the nipple. The Options bottles he tries to draw the whole nipple into his mouth often, and I have to pull it out and slow him down on it.
As someone who within 3 weeks tried 4 formulas, I never thought going to formula would become such a task. A little tip that not every parent will probably go through but pay close attention to how your daughter reacts to the formula. DS was doing just fine on the Enfamil Supplementing formula when I was weening him off of breastmilk and then all of a sudden became really colicky, wasn't pooping, and just down right miserable. It took about a week and a half to realize he was slowly becoming less content, passing gas less, and having next to zero in bowel movements. From there, we switched, and switched 2 more times before getting him on what he's on now, which seems to be getting him back to his usual self.
