Pregnant after 35

Feeling worried

After being sick all week, I'm so nervous for my ultrasound today.  I'm so worried something happened in there.  Plus, my daughter went from saying "the babies" to saying "the baby," which freaks me out.  She's said there were 2 since the very beginning.  Ugh.  I haven't asked her more in-depth questions because I don't want to know.  Ultrasound is at 11 and I'm going to be nervous until then.  As luck would have it, I have an appointment with my therapist this morning so hopefully that will calm me down a bit.  Prayers and happy thoughts appreciated!!

Re: Feeling worried

  • The body is am amazing amazing place. Women have successfully carried pregnancies through insane conditions. I hope you are feeling better and that you get awesome reassurance today when you get to see your babes! I think all we can do is hope (and pray for some, not all) and be the best version of ourself possible at any given moment. T&P!!!!

  • It is so hard not to worry, especially in the early stages!!! I was so afraid of what we might not find at our first ultrasound that my dh thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown in the waiting room. I see that you saw both heartbeats and they are both measuring on track, that's great news!
  • So happy to see your good update @emsmama15 ! And you're definitely not alone in freaking out before ultrasounds or appointments. My heart is in my throat every single test or appointment, even now well into the second trimester. My OB's office started measuring my blood pressure after the doppler check, because beforehand it would be off the charts high, even though it's stone cold normal every other time.

@redheadbride15--that's how my BP is too! That's a great idea to get them to take it AFTER the reassuring parts. I had to track my BP at home for my whole pregnancy last time because it was always NUTSO high in the office. Except the one time they took it after my anatomy scan and all had gone well. I should have asked them to change up the pattern then.
  • @Sporty1216 Haha, my BP can be as high as 160/90 at the beginning of a visit. It's that way when I go to the dentist too. I just get SUPER anxious. It's always normal at the end of the OB visit though. I also track my BP at home (because I'm OCD about things like that). If anything it trends low at home... 102/64 this morning, for example. I have no idea why I get so anxious at medical appointments. I'm a doctor myself so you'd think I'd be comfortable in that setting, but I guess it's true that doctors make the worst patients.

That makes me feel better, @redheadbride15--mine was WAY up there too. They were freaked out at first, but when my numbers at home were normal, they calmed down about it. I am typically not a super high anxiety person, but doctor's appointments do a number on me in that regard. And let's not even discuss the dentist. Haha. It's good to know that even doctors can get nervous like this. I think it just matters SO much to me, I can't help but be a wreck until I know things are ok. At the health screening at work, I was totally fine and got a totally normal reading. But the stakes there were lower than low. I'm gonna ask them to wait when I go to my appointment on Monday and will Report back how it works! :)
  • @emsmama15 YAY!! So glad to hear that everything is looking good! Go twinsies go!! So happy for you!!

  • @emsmama15 - I'm so sorry I just now read this but I'm sooo relieved to read your update.  I would have definitely freaked out about what your LO was saying with just one "baby".... oh my word.  So glad everything is good.  Enjoy your weekend!
  • Glad things went so great. I freak out before every appointment. Or I convince myself the doc was wrong and I have a litter of puppies.
