Ovarian cysts delaying treatment???

I am currently CD35.....I will be starting provera on Monday for ten days to induce a period. I'm also starting metformin tomorrow....I  go in CD3 for Baseline ultrasound to see if I still have ovarian cysts, doc says If I do I'm going to have to be put on birth control instead of  taking clomid as clomid will only make my cysts worse....anything you ladies have done that helped shrink  your cysts?? I really want to give this cycle a chance!! Thank you!:)

Re: Ovarian cysts delaying treatment???

  • Been there. Done that. Got the freaking T-shirt. Oh goodness I wish so badly that I could give you helpful information but I can't. After my first IUI I tried to go straight into a 2nd IUI cycle and at baseline found a cyst. 3 weeks of BC and a cyst check. Yep, still there! 3 more weeks of BC and a cyst check. You guessed it! Still there!

For the sake of not delaying me any longer my RE agreed to aspirate the cyst. At the baseline for my current cycle. Less painful/more gross than expected. I was able to stim for the cycle with letrozole and follistim but by the time I had gotten to my cd11 follicle check the cyst had refilled!!!!

i still got a mature follicle and went through with IUI number 2 but now I am sooooo worried that I will have two cysts. The one that never went away and a new one from this cycle...ugh!!!!

so I guess moral of the story ask you re to aspirate the cyst right away? It may come back but the aspiration should give enough time for another follicle to mature

  • Omg.....that is not even fair. I am so sorry you had to go through all of that!! I will keep that in mind,  I can't wait another three weeks on birth control!! Ahhh. Oh man I hope that your cysts have resolved. ..they have no business bothering us like this!!! Lol
  • I just really feel for you!!! The delay was heart breaking. Especially since we had already had such a delay with switching providers and doing additional tests. We were actively treating all last year and only successfully ovulated 2 cycles!!

Fx this tww guess well and I am just pregnant so I don't have to deal with the cysts anymore!!!

i will be thinking "calm ovary" thoughts for you! Good luck!

  • hey there! I have had ovarian cysts following two medicated IUI cycles and let me just say they were a pain in the booty. I was SO ready to get movin with my next cycle but benched for 2-4 weeks (can't remember exactly... I wanna say closer to 2 weeks). I was given birth control both times for my cysts and both times the cysts went away after a couple weeks. One of the times I also did an acupuncture treatment that specifically targeted cysts. Not sure if that helped. It seemed a little nuts. The acu guy I usually go to put needs in my abdomen and then hooked them up to a machine that made them vibrate. It was  painful and I could feel my ovaries as he did it... but my cysts were gone. I told my RE and he said my cysts were just gone bc of the BC. So that's prob it but I suppose the acu didn't hurt...... too bad. I hope those things shrink so you can get movin!!

  • I too developed a cyst from taking Clomid. I was put on bcps for 3 weeks, went back in for a check and it had shrunk. Most cysts will shrink within a bcp cycle. Good luck!

Ladies just a question regarding your cysts that put your IUI's on hold- how large were the cysts?  My DH and I have been doing clomid for the last 3 cycles and on the last I had a cyst that was 6 cm.  My OBGYN didn't seem concerned and didn't start me on anything in regards to the cyst.   We are now going to see a RE at the end of March but will continue with the Clomid in the interim.  Just curious to gain some insight on whether we might be delayed even further TIA

  • Mine was a little over 4 cm at the beginning. BC got it down to I think around 2 cm. when they aspirated it they got 4 cc of fluid out. Gross!
