Placenta Encapsulation

Getting close to the date...just wondering if anyone is dong placental encapsulation? I know it's a little off-putting to think of consuming your placenta but I heard there are many benefits and when in pill form it's a little easier to get your mind around. I discussed with my partner and he just shuddered lol...any thoughts? Stories?

Re: Placenta Encapsulation

  • There are many threads on this (I know I've replied to a few). Have you tried searching?

The search bar is at the bottom of the page. This is the reason they ask you to lurk for 3 days before giving you permission to post.

@Isquire I started a thread a few months ago on this. I am planning on doing encapsulation. I didn't do it with my first but PPD really effected me after I stopped nursing and I wanted to give this a try to help this time around. It's a fairly simple process and some paperwork at the hospital. Do you have specific questions?

    Edit: tagged wrong person
  • @lsquire I started a post too. I am going through with doing it. I found a woman who was recommended to me in my area and I am excited about it.
  • I did a lot of research on this as I was pretty interested in it and I had a friend who did and said she though it was beneficial to her. I decided against as I couldn't find any peer reviewed medical journal studies that linked the consumption of placenta to the reduction of PDD and benefits to breastfeeding. Also, my Dr. said she didn't recommend it for the same reason as well as she wasn't sure if there could be negative impacts. But like I said I read many people feel it has helped them and if you aren't scared of the potential negative side effects (which I don't even know what those could be) then I would go for it!
  • Its iron. Iron deficiency. You could also eat alot of red meat or iron rich veges like broccoli, beets, etc. Some cultures bury the whole thing and plant a tree over it. Some animals eat theirs after birth because they are so weak and need strength etc.
