Leeps/Cervical bleeding

Let me start by saying I love reading everyone's posts.  I feel as if these 'communities' really help a lot!

The reason why I am writing today is because I have been experiencing this:
I had some spotting at 9w 1 day and I didn't think anything of it.  Then a few days later, I went to the bathroom and had blood and blood clots.  I then freaked out....because of the clots.  So I called the doctors and they got me right in.  When the doctor looked at my cervix, he mentioned how it looked different (and later the nurse said that she has never seen one like that and it was a good learning day).  They called a specialist in and I was told it was due to the LEEP procedures I had more than 12 years ago.  So the next day, I had an ultrasound to make sure the baby was ok (mostly for my mental well being) and it was doing wonderful!!!  However, I am still discouraging blood clots and I have to wait to hear back from the doctor (after they review the ultrasound).

Sorry this is so lengthy, but has anyone else experienced anything like what I have described above?  If so, did anything come from it or did you have a perfectly healthy pregnancy?

Thank you in advance!

I had a LEEP about 5 years ago. This is my first pregnancy to make it to 10 weeks (one previous early m/c not related to LEEP) so I'm not sure how it is going to pan out. I did have pretty severe bleeding after sex once with the first pregnancy and now during this one.

Baby is ok on ultrasound and I've yet to see my OB to ask if my cervix is ectropion/abnormal/friable. However, it just feels different and more rough (to touch) after the LEEP. This was strike two and unfortunately I think I'll have to abstain from sex during this pregnancy for my mental health as well as my husbands given the bleeding was so worrying.

My OB will be ordering cervical length measurements on the 12 and 18 week ultrasound to monitor for cervical incompetence since this can rarely be an issue.

Hoping the bleeding stops for you soon!
  • I had a LEEP procedure about 6 years ago. I am currently 10w 1d and have had bleeding from pretty much the beginning. I just went to my first OB appt and they did a pap smear. When the Dr checked out my cervix, she said she just had to barely touch it and it would bleed. She didn't seem concerned about it..So I didn't worry. Could be related to LEEP procedure. Bleeding was driving me crazy with worry and Google was my best friend. But the bleeding has been lightening up with time. Just take it easy, don't do too much.

  • I had a LEEP done many years ago and when I was pg with DS I had it monitored closely throughout to make sure it wasn't incompetent. (An uncommon, but serious potential complication). Everything stayed good throughout, thankfully.

I haveht had any bleeding, but when I was inserting my progesterone suppository a couple nights ago, I was noticing it felt more open and it freaked me out. After some googling I found out that's common after having a child already and usually my cervix is high enough I can't reach it so I wasn't sure what to compare it to. I have a new OB with this pregnancy and I'll be asking her Monday about it.

I I hope your doctor gets back to you with answers soon. And if he doesn't or you don't feel comfortable with the answers, it never hurts to get a second opinion. It's probably fine but you don't need one more thing to worry about.
