If you room share...

Which of the following is most similar to what your LO sleeps in - regular crib, mini crib, Pack N Play? We are going to be moving LO out of his bassinet very soon as he needs more room and is nearly outgrowing it, and I'm debating between a mini crib and PNP for him next. We have a (very expensive, wonderful) regular crib in his nursery, butttt his room is on a different floor of the house than ours and I'm just not comfortable with him being that far away all night - video monitor and all. I'm thinking mini crib because I've just recently learned (in another post I created [thanks, ladies!]) that the PNP isn't as practical as I thought. I didn't realize the playard is really low and would be difficult to lay LO down on and pick him up from. Anyone have a mini crib or any feedback on mini cribs? Recommendations? My only concern with a mini crib is that LO is super tall, so he may outgrow it soon. There is no way we can move his crib from his room to ours though, so I need to find something that works. We do have room for a regular crib in our room, so the other option is I could find a second crib to use in our room.

Re: If you room share...

  • Our pack n play has a bassinet insert, but the weight limit on that is 15lbs. We plan on setting his crib up in our room soon. An acquaintance of mine was selling an adorable mini crib that would've matched our room, but I couldn't justify it after getting a crib and pack n play. Some of the mini cribs I've seen cost just as much as full size, so depending on how long you plan on keeping him in your room a regular crib might be a better investment.

  • I'd get the pack in play because it will continue to be useful, and he won't be able to use the mini crib for very long. The p&p has the bassinet and then when they are over 15lbs you have to bend down but it's nbd. That's what we bought.
  • My pack & play has two levels just like our crib. So when she lays in it right now (almost 4 months)she is higher up, but when she gets bigger we can bring it down so she can stand up.
  • Our LO has a pack n play like the one @trishee13 described. But...he's also insisted this whole last week on being in our bed so he's really only slept in it for a week or so.
  • We do the pack and play thing while we travel, and honestly it works fine.  It may be low to put LO down and pick up, but provided you don't have issues bending over it should work until you are ready to move LO to the nursery.

  • We have the Chicco Lullago bassinet. It's called a bassinet, but it's actually quite large. We don't have enough room next to our bed for a pack n play, but this fits perfectly and it the same height as our bed. LO will probably outgrow it in terms of being able to sit up, before she outgrows it physically. It is very long, and the weight limit is 20 lbs. It also collapses and comes with a bag for travel. I highly recommend it.

  • We had the arms reach co-sleeper it's similar to a mini crib but our little guy is incredibly long and outgrew it last week. We tried his crib (he decided he hates it!) so for now he's in our bed. Our pnp is like pp and has two levels which we used for napping in our living room until last week when we tried to transition to the crib!

We are moving his full size crib into our room.  We are on different levels like you and I'm not ready to move him out but he's to big for his bassinet.  You can find good deals on cribs that have been used or maybe have a friend you could borrow one from until your transition your lo into his own room... then you could use the mattress you currently have in his crib in the nursery.  One less thing to buy!

  • When she was smaller, she used to sleep in the napper that came with the PNP. But when she hit about 10 weeks, we started putting her in her mini crib (below) which is in our room. It's perfect for her and I think she'll definitely be in it for the first year.
