It's unfortunate though because it can only be used if you had enough medical expenses OOP to claim medical. I think it's something like 10% of your income. And you can't claim your pump if it came from insurance so it would be just bags & lanolin. Womp womp.
Yeah I wish the OOP was lower (I think it's 7.5%, but really, what's the difference?) I was just excited to see that you can pay for the pump with HSA funds, because the pump I'm going with is only covered at 60% by my insurance.
This year would be a great year to keep track of all medical expenses because a lot of people will go over the 10% of AGI (it's 7.5% if you were born before 1951) threshold with delivery costs and first year medical costs for baby.

With my first my pump was NOT covered by insurance at all. Wish I had seen this then! I got the Medela Freestyle, and it was around $400. Plus bottles, freezer bags, lanolin, etc... And with an unexpected CS, medical bills were insane that year.
I just got a call from my breast pump company this morning saying my insurance was covering 100% of the cost of the pump and starter set I ordered, plus it would cover an extra set of bottles and storage containers. The pump bag was extra if I wanted it, but I declined. I can probably find a better looking one than what they had on their website for less money. My sister got a nice pump supply bag on Amazon recently, and it was nicer and less expensive than the ones available through the medical supplier.
Even if I reach my OOP insurance maximum this year (which I'm sure will happen between prenatal care, delivery costs, etc.), it still won't be anywhere near 10% of my AGI, so unfortunately this won't help me. I need to start working on our taxes this weekend, but I'm not looking forward to it. At least I live in Florida with no state income tax because we always get screwed on federal taxes.
