Hemorrhoid(s)

Using the search function, I saw a couple of posters lightly mention an issue with hemorrhoids and looking for solutions that probably don't involve surgery or seeing a Gastroenterologist.

I didn't see and answers/remedies suggested, so I thought I'd make a new discussion.

I went to good ole Mr. Google and saw tea tree oil as one of the remedies for pregnant women...

I've had external hemorrhoids before my pregnancy and got used to it because I've been constipated during my childhood.

Ive now noticed it got a little bigger and invited another friend over. I'm going to try applying tea tree oil with a cotton ball and see how long it'll take to reduce in size and fade away. I'll maybe do it for a month (if it doesn't get worse) before heading to the doctor.

Anyone else have or had?

Re: Hemorrhoid(s)

  • You can try pads soaked in witch hazel to reduce inflammation and pain, too!

  • Yeah @ajareiny , I read that also and I had it in the house but DH finished it. I plan on buying more this weekend and using the two.
  • Get a squatty potty to help prevent them in the future. It seems silly but really helps.
  • Do you have Tucks? Those helped me a lot postpartum.

  • Preparation H works awesome.
  • Tucks pads or witch hazel and preparation H.  Life savers

  • The only thing that worked for me was usually a prescription suppository, but I hear a sitz bath is helpful too.

  • I second the squatty potty concept - however, I just found a 6-8" step-stool in my house and keep that in the bathroom now. I had some major constipation issues last week that resulted in some scary painful roids. I didn't have any Tucks, but my mom bought a package of Preparation H wipes. I use one to wipe/clean the area each time I go to the restroom, and then I fold a second and tuck it in there similar to Tucks. Less messy than using the cream. Lastly, a hot shower or bath usually relieves some of the pain also.
  • I agree with PP. I have them too because of issues with IBS. Tucks worked great, as well as preparation H. I usually used the preparation H at night with a panty liner so it wouldn't make a mess! They haven't given me issues in a while, but you reminded me that it is probably coming and time to stock up!
  • Hi, I don't usually comment, mainly just lurk.
My gastroenterogist prescribed a suppository and said to take sitz baths every night for a week. I have also been using the preparation H wipes after going to the bathroom.
You should definitely talk with a doctor though. Any doctor can give you a prescription,  it doesn't have to be a gastro.
  • Thanks ladies for the different ideas.

My Update: I made a solution of tea tree oil, jojoba oil, black castor oil, and aloe Vera gel and mixed it in a small dark spray bottle. I've spritz the area 4 times throughout the night each time I wake up to use the bathroom and it tremendously reduced the inflammation!!
