TTC After a Loss

Just Plain Ol' Curiousity

I'm not symptom spotting, I promise! But, just like probably anyone else TTC, I've always kept a log of my symptoms; tummy aches, bloating, agitation, etc. Through out this whole crazy, emotional journey, I've gotten to know my body a lot better. And usually, I can see a definable pattern in my pms and know that AF is on her way (In the first year I always hoped they were early pg signs lol). It slowly changes over time for me, as I'm sure it does for everyone, but currently my uterus works on a precise schedule one week before my period. At 7 dpo I always get the beginning of the same symptoms. So I'm just curious to see if anyone else has noticed that before either, and how they think that falls in with implantation. Typically, implantation is between 6 and 12 dpo, but if your body is already geared up for af when that occurs....what happens???? Does everything come to a screeching halt and hauls ass in the opposite direction? Again, I'm just curious and I wonder what all you other ladies think on this silly matter. :)

Re: Just Plain Ol' Curiousity

  • To my knowledge gearing up for AF at that point in time is (or should be) the same as gearing up for implantation - that's why symptom spotting doesn't work before implantation would have occurred. I don't think there is any haul ass the other direction. Once implantation occurs then you get HCG levels - and those are the ones that turn a pregnancy test positive once they pass a certain threshold. We differ in how fast the HCG levels rise - most are doubling the levels - but that is a normal curve - some will increase way faster some way slower - there is a range of normal with a bunch of people in the middle. Because that differs, and the implantation timeline differs, and our individual bodies vary, we will vary in some early pregnancy symptoms (once implantation occurs). If implantation doesn't occur then the corpus luteum doesn't have any feedback that it should continue producing progesterone, progesterone drops and AF comes. The body stops hauling ass because it is out of gas?

In terms of symptom spotting - with my first pregnancy there were some symptoms that I've never had with PMS/AF but they were all after when I would have implanted (I had what I now retrospectively identify as implantation bleeding). If I were to get those symptoms again before AF but after implantation might have occurred I may go get myself a pregnancy test and test early (well early relative to my first pregnancy where we waited 18DPO) but not crazy early because I'd have to give my body time to produce enough HCG to be detectable.

What @catiecatp said! I too have tracked my cycle for symptoms for a long time and have found in my two pregnancy cycles, the only real possible indicator/difference for me around this time was an increase in CM and being super hot temperature wise. Also, for my first pregnancy I had a distinct implantation "dip" and temp spike which then put my chart into a triphasic pattern. It's pretty cool to look back on and see.

  • I found the book Taking Control of Your Fertility hugely informative - this isn't my area of expertise, but paraphrasing and rewording information is something I have a lot of practice in

  • I have been pregnant 3 times. Each time, I feel distinct implantation pain 6 dpo. After that, my symptoms have varied tremendously. I have no idea what happens.
