How fast it too fast?

So my little girl was diagnosed with silent reflux and prescribed infant gaviscon. This gave her extremely bad constipation so I stopped giving it to her and my health care visitor suggested putting her on cow and gate reflux formula which i have now done. The trouble is as I have had to go up a teat size (to avent no. 3, she is 6 weeks) as the formula is a lot thicker than the other formula, she is now drinking a bottle in 10 - 15 mins, is this too fast? I tried her with no. 2 teats but she didn't seem to be able to get the thicker formula through

Any advice would be really helpful

  • How many oz?

  • She drinks 5-6 oz in one go
  • My little guy is 8 weeks and we have been giving him 5oz and using avent bottles as well and just yesterday we switched the nipple to a 3. I was nervous about it because it's so soon for his age but the number 2 he would suck so hard that the nipple would incave and you could tell it was a struggle for him. He also downs his bottle under 10mins it probably takes him 5 mins but we never timed it. He is all relaxed since we made this switch so I think in your case as long as your baby isn't choking on it, spitting up (a huge amount) and is taking to the formula switch for the reflux and the formula is coming out of the nipple good then just stick to the 3 and you should be fine.

  • Thanks for your reply, it's helpful to know its ok for her to drink fast! Being a first time mum is so nerve wracking sometimes!
  • Mine has been guzzling down bottles from the start. No reflux just gas issues. Try taking breaks mid feed for burps. Otherwise I don't think you can really make them drink slower. I keep with level 1 nipples because he drinks so fast but he's just on similac sensitive.
