I am a FTM and I have a feeling I am not the only one wanting advice from people who have done this before. We are working on our registry for our little girl. We are also splitting the shopping up with me losing my job so we can afford this.
What are the top items you couldn't have lived without with your baby.
What items do you feel are over rated?
What are the best places for coupons and things to help with the cost.
I think infant baths are over rated. We ended up not using ours and instead just got the foam pad you lay down - it's like $3 at Walmart and then just would replace of it got yucky. You can also use regular towels instead of the cutesy kid towels, though I would get some infant washcloths because those are a lot softer than my regular wash cloths.
I couldn't live with a swing or a bouncer. My son loved both and would often sleep in the swing for naps and just hang out in the bouncer while I cooked dinner or whatever.
Other than that - I liked the no frills onesies and sleep gowns the best for the first 8 months or so, just ones I picked up at Walmart. And besides a car seat, somewhere safe to sleep, diapers and whatever you choose to feed your kid with - there isn't a lot of stuff you NEED to have. The best burp clothes I liked were the cloth diaper inserts.
This is why I love asking mom's who have the experience with it. I would never have thought about the diaper inserts, but it makes a lot of sense. Thank you!
Needs (for us): -car seat -crib -bottles -bottle brushes -diapers -onesies -swaddle blanket, A&A brand -pacifier -snap n go stroller -baby soap and lotion -infant first aid kit/thermometer
Nice to have, but can do without : -paci clip -extra crib sheets -mirror for over the car seat -baby carrier -changing pad w/ extra cover -baby wash cloths and towels -cotton balls -Vaseline -baby bath tub (simple blue plastic one) -pack n play -bouncy seat -nursing pillow
Overrated: -expensive strollers and diaper bags -wipes warmers -special drying rack for bottles -crib sets -mobiles -swings and Rock n play

Shoes are overrated as are most small clothes. DS just wore a onesie and a blanket/pants or sleep sacks when he was little.
To save on items, I shop at consignment sales or on FB B/S/T groups.
