Anyone still spotting?

I am 10 weeks pregnant today.  My bleeding started around 5 weeks, and I'm STILL spotting.  Last Monday I went in for my dating ultrasound and my OB found a small bleed around the placenta and told me no sex, no heavy lifting, no exercise until my next appointment in three weeks (Feb 9). My OB didn't say what type of bleed it was, but I'm guessing it was a subchorionic hematoma/hemorrhage.

Anyway, the bleeding seems to alternate reddish brown and brown. Some days are lighter than others and every once in a while I get a day or two with no spotting. Sometimes I have cramping, sometimes I don't.  It's really kind of gross (sometimes it seems more like tissue than mucus, but I think it's just mucus).

Anyway, is anyone else still going through this or did you go through this for SO LONG??  It's been five weeks now!  The length of time is what is most concerning to me, and it's making me feel like I'm going to lose my mind.  I know this type of bleeding pregnancy is common, but it's just been going on and on and on...

Re: Anyone still spotting?

  • I'm sitting in my dr office right now waiting for him to come do a double check since my bleeding and cramping came back yesterday. I had a huge bleed in New Year's Eve, with intermittent brown icky spotting since. It's just exhausting and I wish it would clear up. I think having spotting for a long time is not abnormal, just frustrating. I also have a sch.

  • @bonella99 -- sorry that you're going through it too. It *is* so frustrating. If you want to, keep us updated on how your appt goes. Sending some positive energy/thoughts for good news!
  • For those who I've known to have SCH, they bled for months. One bled well into 20 weeks and another from implantation until 16 weeks. Sorry you have to deal with this but at least it's been dx so it's not so scary!
  • Thank you - that is reassuring to hear.

I've been spotting and bleeding for so long that I forget exactly when it started. I had to get a Rhogam shot on Christmas Eve for bleeding, then my SCH started hemmoraghing about 2 weeks ago and I ended up in the ER. I've been spotting a medium to dark brown since then. My doctors keep telling me it is normal and not to worry so much. I'm 12 weeks, 5 days today btw.

Oh and if you have A- blood type, they might need to give you a shot for the bleeding.
  • I was diagnosed with this yesterday at 11w6d. I spotted continuously up until 6 weeks and since have had one random day of spotting every couple weeks. It is so scary and frustrating because I think it has stopped for good and then it happens again.

They did another ultrasound yesterday and found a small SCH. Told me no sex/exercise/lifting as well at least until they do another ultrasound two weeks from now to check on it. Ugh.
  • @daisylove15 I feel the same way! It's been so long I almost can't remember how it all started. It's great that your doctors have been so reassuring. That has to feel good even if the spotting is annoying/nerve-fraying.

@2cutepups87 - It is frustrating. I also get excited about maybe things resolving (for a couple of days) and then it comes back. The activity restriction is so hard! I hate it. I have an 11 month old and live on the third floor of a walk-up (that's six stairs cases I need to climb to get to my floor). So, I'm mostly stuck in the house when my husband isn't there. I'm currently studying for my boards, so it's me and the baby all day, indoors, while he works. It's the worst!

I hope we both get good news in two weeks.
  • My brownish light pinkish discharge has started for a few days now but I wasn't concerned because it seemed to be only when I was really active or straining it just had a BM. Then recently it came on pretty heavy. So much so that I called the nurse at the fertility clinic because I haven't been seen by the OB yet. I'm 7.5 weeks and during my first pregnancy I was diagnosed with s sub chorionic hemorrhage at 7 weeks and put on modified bed rest even though I didn't have pain and brownish discharge until 9.5 and 12 weeks. I'm wondering if they will see the bleed at my next appt Monday. But bed rest in the meantime anyway.

  • @smilormarie -- I am sorry to hear that you are going through this too!  That's how mine started.  I noticed it more after straining, etc. and then it started to be more frequent (seemingly with no triggers) and more in amount. Hopefully for you it's just a small little thing (or, best case scenario it is a sensitive cervix).

Also, hoping Monday goes well for you!

  • Oh my gosh! Yes. Mine started 1/1, then had a big bleed on 1/3 (which happened to be my daughter's 2nd bday) was convinced I was miscarrying - was 6 weeks then. Went in and we saw baby. Went back at 7 wks 4 days and OB saw SCH. Been spotting since 1/1, so all month. It does seem to be slowing down. I go back tomorrow to see how things look and I'm hopeful SCH is gone!
