Baby furniture - now or wait until later?

Anyone already getting items? Found a lovely changing table/dresser/hutch on Craigslist today and got it moved into the baby's room but my husband was treating me like I'm nuts since the baby won't be here till the middle of summer.
Please tell me I'm not the only one. I also figure that in another 2-3 months I will be too big to be rearranging things. My back is sore enough as it is from the little I did today. :)

Re: Baby furniture - now or wait until later?

  • I say if you found a good deal and one you love then why not! I just ordered my set since the crib I wanted went on sale today! Not crazy at all :)

  • A good deal is a good deal. If you have the space why not?!
  • The crib from my daughter has been up and in place for 4 years now.  I never even took it down, moved it or anything.  It has been 18 months since my daughter even slept in that room/bed.  I think you are totally fine!
  • I'm all about a good deal.

  • Go for it if you can find good deals. We started buying furniture (a collection through WalMart) at 7 months. Also, baby stuff has great resale value if you find a good deal and then down the road find something else you like better.

  • We already have the crib because DD is still sleeping in it for now but there's a few other things I want to get. When we had DD we had a 1 bedroom place so we skimped on the furniture pretty good. Now we have a house so we are able to actually set a nursery up.
  • I don't think it is crazy at all. It is instinct to want to prepare! I cannot wait to start getting things together. The Hubbs and I just recently purchased a house and it flooded  so we are in the process of remodeling and laying tile through the whole house. We just started the nursery tile this weekend. Do it while you can ladies! I am already exhausted!

  • Not crazy at all, especially if you found what you wanted at a great deal. We are already starting with getting ready DS's room and going to start working on the nursery. If there is anything I learned from my first pregnancy is that as time moves on you get bigger and it's harder to do things, so I'm going to take advantage now so I can take it easy later.

I had a heck of a time finding what I wanted. Finally a few weeks before my scheduled c section I found a crib short enough for me (I need a low profile crib of only 34" since I'm 4'11") and with matching furniture I liked at BuyBuyBaby. They said it would take 8 weeks for delivery! My husband hopped online and we found the exact set at Bambi Baby dot com and they shipped it in less than two weeks. Everyone says their kid didn't even use the crib until 3 or 4 months and they try to tell you that it can wait but I had my baby transitioned from the rock n play to the crib by 6 weeks and no way I would have wanted to try to set up furniture exhausted, post partum, with a newborn. If you find what you like and for a great deal, go for it! Good luck!

  • Like PP's I say if you find what you want, especially if there's a deal on it, go for it! I'm super indecisive and have changed my "vision" for the nursery 100 times since getting a positive test result. lol. We have a stroller and one of those awesome 4Moms mammaroo swings that were hand-me-downs from my brother in law, but aside from that - nothing. I applaud those of you who can make their minds up and stick to it :)
  • I say whenever you feel comfortable buying things go for it! I had the nursery set up completely a month or two before my kids were born. It gave me time to deep clean my house when nesting got really bad lol. I started after 12 weeks with both, and now I'm 12 weeks tomorrow and going to the furniture store to browse today. I'd like to have everything set up before my kids are out of school for the summer so we can spend every day before baby comes out in our pool.
  • We waited and I'm glad we did.  I was all about dark furniture to do a neutral nursery, but the further along I got in my pregnancy the more "babyish" I felt and I changed to white/ivory furniture.  I'm so happy with my decision!  We started buying furniture around 20 weeks.  This time we're just going to need a changing table because we're giving DD the dresser that the current changing pad sits on because it's a super nice piece of furniture - probably the nicest piece of furniture in our entire house lol.  Plus, we realized that the baby really doesn't need all those drawers, so there's not point in having a large piece of furniture in the nursery when we can downsize it a little.  I'll probably wait and see if one of the grandparents wants to buy it, and if not we'll get it later on when we move DD into her big girl room so that we have space for it.

  • I've already bought the crib, dresser, car seats, stroller, and bassinet - I'm buying any of the "big" stuff as I see good deals on it (Target has had some good deals this month!!).

  • I haven't bought anything for this baby because I feel like I'd be jinxing it.  It took allll of my willpower not to buy adorable jammies when I was at Carters last week, exchanging some things for my kids.  But a deal's a deal, and if you're comfortable buying this early, go for it!
