I have had an extremely bad cold for several days now. My SIL suggested that I use essential oils (Dotera Breathe) to help with the congestion, etc. She used them throughout her entire pregnancy (her LO is 2 months old) and did not have any issues. I tend to be very skeptical of these types of things. Has/Does anyone use them?
All the time. Peppermint can cause higher heart rate, but it's also amazing for colds (and migraines). I've used it when absolutely necessary - for migraines, I apply directly to temple at pain onset. For colds, I put in a diffuser and cool mist humidifier.

I use doterra lavender oil every night to help me relax and sleep better. In addition to peppermint for congestion, I recently discovered Breathe Right nose strips. These things are AMAZING! I wear one every night now...it helps immensely with congestion and I swear I sleep so much better. The only downfall is that they are not super sexy!!
Just piggybacking on @ljlockwood comment- breath right strips are amazing! I buy the name brand ones because they open me up better than the off brand. They are hard to take off in the morning, so I take them off in the shower once the water and steam have loosened the adhesive.
I can add my vote to the breathe right strips! As for the essential oils I dot think it can hurt to try them. Like skruhmin said you can put them in the humidifier even if they don't help they'll smell good!
Even just taking a whiff of the eos can provide temporary relief! For overnight help though, a diffuser is great. I put a few drops of lavender in my bath and it's heavenly.
I was going to a "specialist" prenatal massage place for a while and they were allllll about DoTERRA essential oils ( although I didn't like them on my face ! ) they seemed to use a lot of lavender and citrus oils... I've started plugging in the cheap Vicks vapo steam humidifier that I have... They cost about $15, work like a charm for usually about 8 hours straight depending on how high the mineral content is in your water ( or you can add salt ) and there's a little cup holder kinda thing where you can add vapors, essential oils et al in the top - for $15 I'd def recommend getting one... I feel a lot better if I'm congested when it's on especially as we live in a super low humidity city that's cold and bloody or itchy noses are frequent
