1st Trimester

A bit ticked...

Some of you may have ready post a couple days ago about my OB being concerned about HCG not doubling in 48 hours. I thought she was nuts because my levels were 52000 and 64000 two days later. Everything I have read says it stops doubling in 48 hours after 6000.

I went in for the US on Monday and heard a strong heartbeat of 140 and saw the baby, who was measuring 4 days behind my due date according to my LMP. The US tech said everything looked great, the nurse said everything looked great, but my Dr. was an hour behind schedule and couldn't meet with me.

She called today and said everything looked great and that she wanted me to come in for my regularly scheduled 8 week ultrasound next week. She could've stopped there but she continued with, "We will check to make sure there is still a heartbeat and that the baby is on track growth wise. If not, we will have to have a discussion about that."

Why did she need to add the disclaimer? Why couldn't she just let me relax? I worried all weekend about the US and all last week about the blood test, why couldn't she just say, "See you next week"? Does she know something she's not telling me or is she just being brash?

Re: A bit ticked...

  • Im sorry that your emotions are going through the ringer! Based on what youve said, i would say that the doc is just being brash. You would think if they had any more concerns they would just tell you. Try and relax, thats all you can do. Everything sounds like its going well in there, just tell yourself "i am pregnant today" that mantra helped me through a tough time in the beginning of my pregnancy. Good luck to you!

  • I'm sorry the doctor said that. She was probably just being brash. It doesn't seem like there was any  need to say that and all it really did was stress you out. I hope all turns out well.

I'm so sorry she said that. That was most likely  her being brash and incredibly  insensitive!! Sending  positive  vibes your way!
  • Because her bedside manner is crap.  I cannot handle unnecessarily alarmist doctors and would be looking to switch, frankly.

  • Maybe she thought not telling you what she was looking for would bother you.

  • I think she was just lacking in tact, the way she told you seems inappropriate. I do feel like she was probably trying to be honest, she just has a very blunt way of saying it. Also, if you've had a loss before she may have been trying to reassure you  that she will continue to monitor you and baby. There's always a positive spin to be had and I would rather look at it that way than think she was trying to shake you. Hopefully that's all it is.
