Hello! I am new here and eager to find some TTC Cysters.

I know that most of you have been trying much longer, but my husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for 10 months now. At 21 I thought it would be a walk in the park, boy was I wrong.... After 4 trials of Clomid and 1 trial of femara, I STILL HAVE NOT OVULATED:(:(:(:(.

OBGYN refused to check ultrasounds during my cycle, so we had no way of knowing whether I was full of cysts - or if the clomid was even working. After 5 months of trial I FINALLY got an apt with an RE last Thursday and he has diagnosed me with PCOS. I am going in on Friday to have an HSG and my hubby just got his sperm tested - no results yet. We are going to try this month with Metformin, Provera, Clomid and then probably a trigger shot to get things going. I am not getting a period without provera induction each month, and I have yet to ovulate on my own...ever.

I am nervous about my PCOS diagnosis and what that means for my future... Are you ladies on Metformin for life? Or is it something that you can stop once you are done having children. He also mentioned the possibility of developing diabetes type 2 in the future.. I am at a healthy weight right now, but he said even at a healthy weight your chances with PCOS skyrocket. I'm freaking out about the HSG as well.. I have read that it is not bad and I have also read that it is the worst!!?!?

I am so nervous about all of this and I really do not know what to think... Any suggestions??

@TTCBabyW I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 12. I've been a type 2 diabetic since age 14 and been on metformin since then (I'm now 33). But my PCOS is severe and I have every symptom you can possibly have from the disorder. With PCOS, you do have a much greater chance of developing diabetes because of your insulin resistance. Metformin can help hold that off for a long time, especially with a proper diet and exercise routine. I find it strange the GYN would not check your follicle growth and I'm glad that you are now under the care of an RE. I think it's about getting the right dose for you to ovulate. Some women need more, some less. I'm sorry that you have to be here, but I also know that this site has been a great support system for me. Good luck and FX for a short stay!

Skinny PCOS here. I was dx with PCOS at 24 due to irregular periods. Other than irregular periods, no ovulation and some hormonal acne I don't have the typical symptoms of PCOS. I do not have any blood sugar issues and have never been put on metformin.

I did not have any success with clomid. I have been able to produce on injectables but only one follicle per cycle and huge resulting cysts. It has not new the most positive experience. We are two years into the dx and treatment for infertility. Staring IVF in the face if we have one more failed cycle

I too am a skinny PCOSer. I'm not sure about my blood sugar levels, but my OBGYN doesn't even know I have PCOS, as my insurance doesn't cover and infertility treatment. I only found out after ttc for about 4 months with no positive opks, some Dr. Googling and a referral from my OBGYN to an RE, which referred me outside my network. My RE did blood tests and an ultrasound and confirmed my PCOS. I haven't taken anything other than Clomid and IVF meds as anovulation is the only thing I need treatment for at this point. I will talk with my OBGYN after we're done with trying to have a baby. My only symptoms are anovulation, extra hair in the pelvic region and thin head hair.

I've heard that HSG experiences vary, but I didn't think it was that bad. A touch bit worse than a PAP, which for me also aren't bad. I think the worst part is the speculum, but I have a small vagina so it hurts me an extra lot.

Hi! A skinny PCOS'er here too. I only found out last year (Just before turning 33) that I have PCOS, I was then off the BC for a year.
Just like @AandDM2014 my OBGYN does not know I have PCOS, they found out at the fertility clinic after the OBGYN said 'we don't know if you can get pregnant until you try' after 3 unsuccessful IUI I had to start taking hormones and ended up at a fertility clinic who right away saw it at the U/S
They told me I could have gotten 10.000 IUI's and probably not be getting pregnant. (they are very careful with saying I never can..as they do not want to get the 'oops-I-got-pregnant-but-you-told-me-I-couldn't!' )

I asked about the diabetic stuff, but no-one can really explain me what it is. All I know I have been graving sugar all my life, and can eat and eat candy without getting sick. (so does my mum and sister..we thought it was just an 'us' thing)

I never had a HSG-test, so can't help you there.

All I use was Gonal-F with 2 IUI's and then decided to try IVF.
With IVF I was overstimulated. My follicles didn't really got big, but apparently out of the 19 follicles they took 18 eggs of which 17 got fertilised. Which was not what they expected to see. They reckon I had max 3.
I took out the eggs while being awake, which was a horrible horrible pain, I am not going to lie. BUT even though it hurts, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I've never heard the term "skinny PCOS". I guess that means I'm a fat PCOS.

Hi @ttcbabyw - I also have PCOS but I am overweight (it would be great for me to lose about 20lbs at this point). I'm on Metformin and take 1000mg/day although my Rx is for 2000mg/day -- just couldn't get up to that dose without feeling totally fatigued and moody. So far I've done 2 cycles with Letrozole and Ovidrel, unfortunately without conceiving. I'm glad you're now working with an RE! Such a difference from an OB/GYN for infertility.

I'd be interested to hear about the HSG -- I haven't had one yet but it's been mentioned as a possibility for me.

@arbasham Generally one of the side effects of having PCOS is extra weight, and they usually tell you if you want to conceive lose 10% of your body weight. If I lost 10% of my body weight I would weigh about 113 pounds, which wouldn't be able to support a pregnancy. Some people with PCOS just don't have extra weight as a side effect, it doesn't mean you necessarily have "fat PCOS" (which I don't think is a thing, and I would personally not say. I would say you have normal PCOS), it is just not common to be thin and have it.

Welcome! I'm sorry you have to be here...
We've been ttc for a little over 2 years. I had an HSG over a year ago before I had any treatment or surgery and it was awful. After all of my treatments I was told I had to do it again, I was dreading big time! It wasn't that bad the second time. I think it just depends on what you've got going on down there.

After several more uterus biopsies I asked for some pain meds and my Dr. was happy to do this. So you could call and see if they'll give you something.
