My LO is 7 weeks old and has GERD, to the point where she was screaming, arching her back, and refusing to nurse. Our pediatrician prescribed Zantac, 1.5 ml twice a day (she's nearly 12 lbs). We saw results within 2 days, now she's back to nursing and no screaming. However, she used to be awake most of the day and woke up a couple times a night. Now she sleeps ALL the time. Is this normal? Can it make her drowsy? Shouldn't a 7 week old be awake quite a bit? Yesterday she slept basically all day, waking up to feed and for diaper changes, finally woke up at 6pm and was up until 12:30am, then slept until 6:30am! She's been asleep except for feeds and changes again today. Am I right to be worried? DH thinks we're drugging the baby with the Zantac, but I don't want to stop the meds. She was in so much pain, and coughed a lot after nursing and spat up (sometimes painfully) after every feed. Anyone else have experience with this? I'm a FTM and I'm not sure what's normal for a baby this age. Im wondering if she was previously so wakeful because of discomfort???

Re: Zantac and Sleeping
If she is eating well and has good wet/dirty diapers then there is probably no reason for concern.
She sometimes must be woken to nurse, and her nursing sessions have gotten shorter (although I'm told that reflux babies overeat sometimes), but between 6:30am and 2:00pm she's already had 5 wet or wet/poopy diapers, so you're right - she's probably fine.
I'm just weirded out that she slept 6 hrs and was dry when she woke up. Of course she dirtied a diaper during her nursing session, so it was probably a fluke.
If she was cluster feeding before I would think growth spurt though. Either way it should pass relatively quickly.
@kdoak2015 what formulas have you tried so far?
We just started her last week on the powder and she's been on gentle ease now for a week. She still spits up quite a bit(we are on slow flow premie nipples and burp her as much as she'll allow us to(cries when she knows she's going to get burped)).
I think we'll try the similac of things don't balance out for her by the end of this week.
I'm not sure how much you've read up on types of formulas but part of the reason I suggested alimentum is that like total comfort and some other formulas, it's milk based but the protein is partially hydrolyzed meaning it's been broken down some and is easier for some babies to digest. It's the same idea as the "comfort proteins" marketed in Gerber formulas and why babies with protein intolerance sometimes do well with it.
