In so much pain!

So I had my son on Christmas. When I got my IV I didn't move my hand pretty much the entire 32 ours of labor because I am afraid of needles. Sense then my wrist has been in so much pain, to the point now where I can hardly move it. I'm not sure if they hit a nerve, or what happened but it's killing me.
It also makes no sense to me because it's on the side of my wrist, and my IV was on top of my hand.
Has anyone else experienced such pain from their IV? I don't know what to do.

Re: In so much pain!

  • Is it just your wrist or does it go up your thumb? A couple of months after I had my first, I developed de quervian syndrom ( aka mommy thumb) where you get shooting paint hat go from your thumb joint down to your wrist ( side of your wrist). I ended up with a steroid injection which got rid of the pain within 24 hrs of the injection. I had to get another shot about 9 months after bc the pain came back but it went away after the second shot. Might be worth talking to a hand/ ortho Doctor.

  • that dosent sound normal to me at all. Go to the doctor. It could be unrelated to the IV but regardless you shouldn't have that much pain over such a long time period!
  • @Monkeybutt80 that is exactly what is happening! I can't move my wrist side to side, and it shoots up my thumb. In going to call my dr today to try and get her to look at it.

It's likely from carpal tunnel, which I got terribly in my last week of pregnancy and way worse once he was born! I could barely even lift him! I truly believe it's unrelated to the IV and if you look into it, it's very common to have wrist issues after pregnancy.
A wrist brace can help, but my massage therapist advised me against using one and was able to cure my pain about 1-2 months post partum. She also gave me several strengthening exercises/physio and some natural topical pain relief that was incredible.

I hope you get relief soon!
