Plus size maternity clothes

I may be the only one, but I am a plus-size woman (18-20) going into my first pregnancy. I was hoping to share places we find good clothes at good prices, or alternatives to maternity clothes since the selection is limited.

So far, I have glanced at the selection at Motherhood, Kohls, and on the Old Navy site. Some items on JC Penney look pretty good. A few Liz Lange items come up to a 2x, which is what fits me right now.

Anyone with recommendations? I need a couple of professional outfits for a conference in May.

Re: Plus size maternity clothes

  • This is my second pregnancy and I am too plus size last time I wore a lot of motherhood maternity we have an outlet close so that was nice. I ordered a couple pairs of maternity jeans from Walmart they have a plus size line that I have actually heard a lot of good things about so I figured for $17 it wouldn't hurt to try! I found anything that was scrunched on the sides to stretch shirt wise if I sized up a size that it worked perfectly as well as a maternity shirt for the later end of the pregnancy.

  • Target and old navy. For your conference it may be easier to wear dresses than pants. Dressed are cut more liberally.
  • I'm not plus size, but I'm kind of on the fence (12-14), so sometimes regular sizes are too small.  Pink Blush recently came out with a plus size line, and I really love all the styles on their site - so pretty and feminine.  Shipping is pretty fast, too!

  • SkiChic626 - How do the clothes run at pink blush?  I was wondering if they ran small since it's like a "boutique"

swap.com! I've ordered some great things off of there, and it's used, so it's way cheaper.

I'm also on the fence, (normal size is a 10/12)  and I will say I found h&m clothes to run way small. Gap seems to run big, and motherhood maternity seems to be spot on, but with room to grow ... strategically.

JCP maternity also has larger maternity clothes (or they seem to run large.) I seem to be a size M there, and the clothes ran up to XXL. I think they also had a plus section? Maybe?

  • bsckgb7 I think they run slightly small, but not all the time.  I've had a couple things I've had to send back (I've bought a lot from them), but most of it fits just fine.  I'm normally a 12-14, pre-pregnancy, and I'm 5'10, and I bought Larges in most things during my first pregnancy and the majority of it fit just fine.  I'm skeptical about boutiques, too, because of my size, but I think they're good!  But since then, I've noticed that they've expanded to add XL sizes to many of their clothing options, and they have a whole new plus size line that they didn't have before!   I don't know if I would have needed the plus size since the Large sizes worked well for me, but it's nice to know it's there for those who do    I will say that I won't buy nursing items from them, that was the majority of what I sent back - they're clearly made for small chested women, which I am not lol.  But I didn't notice that issue with the the regular maternity busts.

  • My experience last time around was that I could fit into non plus size maternity clothing because they are made with stretch in mind.
  • I'm a size 18 and have had good luck at Old Navy (for dresses/shirts/skirts) and Motherhood (for pants/bras). I bought a few things at Penny's and Target but found they ran big and small respectively (at least as of summer 2014!)

  • I'm a plus size mom. I love old navy! Today 1/25 they have 35 % off even off clearance. I just ordered 8 shirts for 25.00 including shipping!
  • I am plus size as well. We are about the same size. I had some motherhood clothing that I bought for business (wish I kept them now). I like being able to go in the stores to try on the clothes but sadly walmart and jcpenny only had their stuff available online and not in stores here where I live.
  • I am plus sized and on my 3rd pregnancy. I always find great deals on motherhood and jcpenneys.
  • I'm the same size as you and the xxl maternity shirts at Old Navy fit me great. I bought all of my dress slacks from motherhood maternity. I found jeans at Macy's and capris at target that fit well. Kohl's had a decent selection when I looked 4 years ago, but everything was such a high price I couldn't justify it for clothes I would wear for a few months.
