Boob leakage!

Ladies, I am a first time mom 25+4 and have been leaking DAILY since about 20 weeks. Is this normal? It is so annoying but I have nursing pads in my bras now which helps. Just wondering if anyone else has this... All my prego friends haven't had anything like this. Haha thanks in advance!

  • I going through this also. There is nothing wrong. I decided to get this product called milkies milk saver. You can find it at bed bath and body or go to mymilkies.com..

I would suggest picking up a book on pregnancy and what is happening/ what to expect. Sure as a ftm I have questions too, but having a basic understanding of what to expect has helped me circumvent a lot of "is this normal" worry

Sorry this cracked me up...cuz I am always messing up bed bath & beyond and bath & body works lol

Edit: damnit mobile!!! It was supposed to be junewise's quote.
  • Yep, totally normal! Welcome to motherhood :)

  • Also, don't be alarmed if one is leaking more than another. It actually doesn't mean anything in terms of supply/ease of BFing. With my son, I leaked like crazy, but wasn't able to actually BF when he was born. Now, I am 26wks and my left one is a faucet while rightie is dry as a bone. We'll see how BFing plays out...

  • Here's a thread from last week where we talked about boob leaking. https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12640534/colostrum/p1

Totally normal, and like @laurenmdrn16 said, not indicative of supply or breastfeeding success at all. If you want, you can express some of that extra colostrum and freeze it in syringes for the first few days pp in case you're told you need to supplement.
  • I didn't have any leakage in my first pregnancy but this morning (25 weeks) I felt engorged and got a tiny bit of colostrum out.  I was actually hoping there would be more since my 3 year old has a very bad cold and if there had been enough, I would have loved to have given him some colostrum (he's been weened for two years, but still, that stuff is magic).

  • @Chappy_jr I've been waiting and waiting for my colostrum to come in since I was basically a milk volcano last pregnancy. Nothing. I want it for the same reason, DD's got a cold coming on. What's with the non cooperative boobs, huh??

I freaked out MH because he caught me expressing some colostrum into a syringe and giving it to our 2yr old (who I was never really able to BF). When he asked what I was doing, our son helpfully piped up with "I'm getting boobie medicine!" I think I am a little too natural for MH sometimes. But it really does work wonders!

  • I'm curious how giving colostrum to a sick child helps them? I'm a FTM & have never heard of that and I'm all about the parenting tips & tricks! :)
  • Breast milk in general, but especially colostrum, is packed with anitbodies, nutrients, and immune boosting compounds. Even though I never could get the hang of actual breastfeeding with my son (not for lack of trying!), I would still use what little I could get out to clear up minor eye irritations, skin issues, and even took some myself as an immune booster when I felt a cold coming on. Just a syringe full (maybe 5 mL tops) and I would feel better...not sure if it was placebo effect or my own obsession with making lemonade from the lemons I was given (or I guess a milkshake from uncooperative breasts is a better metaphor).

  • I had some weird boob pain last night and when I went to check I noticed is leaked a little. I think it's totally normal, just another fun thing we get to deal with!
  • I can't find a recent symptoms thread but I have a boob related question: one of my nipples has been extremely sore, it looks cracked and a little red. I've been putting an ice pack on it to numb the pain. Is it okay to put any kind of lotion on? I use a coconunt/shea butter mix for my belly, would this help? Hoping to get some relief before my next OB visit.

Qbf..... coconut oil and Shea butter is fine to use on it until you can have your ob look at it. Cracked, red, and sore nipples without a baby in the mix makes me think a little yeast overgrowth is happening. While you're waiting to see your ob, I'd wash your bras in very hot water after every use, no re wearing.
