bump not growing?

im 22 weeks today and i cant help but notice i havent seen much change in the size of my belly. i know that doesnt necessarily mean it's a bad thing, just worried (FTM here).. during my 20 week scan, the doctor said everything was looking good but i thought by now LO would be going through a growth spurt. any other ladies feel/felt this way?

Re: bump not growing?

  • Every woman's body is different and will react to being pregnant differently. If your doctor isn't concerned, you shouldn't be either. I'm 25 weeks and have only gained 6 pounds. Some women lose weight, some gain 60 pounds. Try not to compare your pregnancy with others. Chances are, your little baby is just fine :)

  • I'm a FTM and 22 weeks today as well, and I think my belly has just started growing at some point over the last week, so I definitely feel you!

  • I'm 22wks and I don't have much of a bump either.  I have a little bump and I'm still in my regular clothes for the most part.  Everything seems fine with baby.  Doctor isn't worried so I"m not either.  Everyone's pregnancy is different.

  • Heya - I'm 23 weeks, and I don't have much of a bump either. I actually lost 8 lbs until my 20 week, where I had gained half a pound. My "bump" is not noticeable at all, unless you touch my abdomen and realize it doesn't feel like a regular abdomen at all. Also FTM.

I guess everyone is different? :)

  • I'm 26 weeks and don't really have much of anything. If I wear a baggy shirt or sweater, you wouldn't even know I was pregnant.
  • thanks for the responses ladies!! i'm trying not comparing myself to other bumps/pregnant woman as i know everyone experiences different things during this time. just curious since i thought LO would be going through a growth spurt (or so ive read). i have an appt on wednesday so ill bring up my concerns then
  • I barely had a bump at 20 weeks and now at 24, I feel huge. The baby really went through a growth spurt over the last few weeks so that might happen for you soon...be prepared! Haha I felt like a got a big bump overnight.

  • I agree with what PPs have said.  I am 23 weeks today, and I didn't really have a bump at all (just some minor bloating) until about 2-3 weeks ago.  I just sort of appeared overnight and has continued to get bigger since.  Every woman's body is different, and if your doctor isn't concerned, baby is probably fine.

I know it's hard not to worry, but if the Dr. said all was okay, then I might try to focus on that.

  • Around 22 weeks I swear my bump got smaller - probably a combination of lessening bloat and baby just shifting around into a position that didn't stick out as much. Of course I freaked out about it, but when I went to my appointment at 24 weeks all was well
  • I'm 22 weeks FTM and barely have a bump. First trimester was hard and I actually lost weight. I'm just now gaining it back! But doctor says baby is growing normally so I try not to worry about it too much... it is a little discouraging because I have a lot of friends that are pregnant as well and they got their bump early and I find myself envious.

However I'm hoping that since maybe this means I can bounce back to my normal size pretty quick once baby girl gets here :)
  • I'm 26 weeks today and I've only really popped the last 2 weeks or so. Enjoy it because you can still wear your non maternity clothes!! I'm loving that part. And I know it's going to get so much bigger the coming months so I don't complain about being small. I just say I'm compact :)
  • I'm 22 weeks and in the last week have heard a lot of things like, "wow... you're definitely pregnant now!" Up until now I've been so jealous of everyone that was obviously really pregnant, and now I'm starting to feel jealous of people who are staying on the small side longer. So basically I'm always jealous of most people and their bump situation.
  • I'm a 3rd time mom...with my first baby bump. My first pregnancy I never even looked pregnant, other than my boobs growing and needing bigger bras, I was in all of my pre pregnancy clothes the whole time...and they fit basically the same, just tighter in the boobs. 2nd pregnancy I had to buy a few maternity tops and had a "bump" at 38 weeks...delivered at 39 and no one could see the bump but me really. At 25 weeks, 3rd time around, I actually have a decent bump and I look pregnant! My kids were born healthy at normal sizes. 6lbs 15oz and 7lbs 12oz :)
  • I just got my first bit of noticeable badly this past week as well. I had the same concern and asked my OB about it too. I was told not to worry, everyone is different. As long as the doc says your good to go then you are good to go! :-)
  • I got a big bump fairly quickly and put on a fair bit of weight too:-) but the last few weeks my bump has looked the same. I'm not too worried though. Will bring it up at doc appointment and ask his opinion.
