37wks should I be worried about excessive swelling first thing in the morning?

I'm 37wks +5 and haven't had hardly any swelling through my entire pregnancy but this morning when I woke up my hands, feet, face and well my whole body actually was swollen! I know swelling is a part of most pregnancies but since I haven't had it this bad any other time I was just wondering if anyone else has had this or knows if theres anything to worry about? I also checked my blood pressure and it was fine so I'm not sure if I need to worry or not!?

Sudden swelling like that I'd call my doctor and ask. What do they think?
  • I'd probably put in a call to the nurse, to be honest. I'm having swelling but it came on fairly gradually and even though it's annoying, I wouldn't call it excessive. Sudden excessive swelling could mean pre-e so I'd say be better safe than sorry.

  • Agreed with PPs, my dr said to call if anything like that happened. Make sure you call, and in the mean time, put your feet up, drink water, relax.
  • Thank you all for the feedback! The swelling got better once I got up moving around but is still there a little. I'm going to call my ob and see what they say. Another thing is the BH's are worse than ever but I've been having them and they aren't painful just tightening and they come on often.
  • Some swelling is normal. I start swelling in my hands and feet around 35 weeks with all my pregnancies, but not in my face. I'd definitely call just to be sure.
  • Stay away from soda and salty foods...you won't cramp as bad or swell
  • This happened to me too! I kicked up the water and protein in my diet. It really worked miracles and brought down my bp which was flirting with pre-e at 140/90. We were 128/78 on Friday.
  • How are you doing @mmeadows16?

  • I called and they told me just to come in for my appt. today and they said my bp is fine and the dr done a ultrasound to check to see if shes turned over yet and he said everything besides her being breech looks good! She's already being stubborn and won't turn over! I've tried everything! He scheduled my c-section for next Wednesday!!! They told me to keep an eye on my bp and the swelling and just drink plenty of water! Thank you all for answering my questions!
