May 2016 Moms

It's been a good week...

I had a really great week pregnancy wise, and while my husband and friends are happy that I'm happy, they don't seem to *get* it. So I'm sharing here. :)
I was able to switch providers and birthing hospitals, and I'm so happy I was able to do so. My new doctor shared many of the concerns that I've had about my prenatal care so far. She took so much time just talking to me and understanding what's been going on. I wish I hadn't waited so long to switch!
While I was waiting to meet with the new doctor, I was sitting quietly in a virtually silent room. Suddenly a door slammed loudly and I felt the baby jump and startle. It was so cute, but something changed in that moment. The baby went from a fetus to my child at that moment. Ever since then I've noticed a little personality shining through. When I am getting worried, anxious or angry, the baby gives me these little taps. I'm sure baby some how is feeling my blood pressure rise and is reacting to that, but it feels like baby is saying "Hey lady, calm down! Everything is fine down here!"
Has anyone else had a moment that instantly changed how you feel about your baby? I'm probably way behind on this and y'all will tell me the baby has felt like your child the whole time, but better late than never right?

  • I totally agree that there was a moment when it all "clicked". I am a STM and we didn't 100% plan to have a second so I was mostly just anxious and worried. Add to that bad MS and HG and chasing a 2yr old and it was hard to get really excited. But one day I felt her move and suddenly she became real. I too have noticed a distinct personality, especially in contrast to my son. My son mostly just chilled, but would do ridiculously strong kicks and punches when I got really excited, usually while watching sports. He was lulled when I sang and slept during the day while I was moving around. And he would always high five MH! So silly!

This girl is a whole different story. She sleeps at night, but is super active all day long! She does these funky flip flops and is much higher than my son ever was. She also loves to headbutt me in the stomach and diaphragm, especially when I sing. MH hasn't felt her yet because she is instantly calmed by his voice and touch. She does like to "play" with my son and will kick him when he lays his head on my belly. She has such a different style and I feel like she is going to be a bit more fiery and a handful than my son. I can't wait to meet her!

  • I'm a FTM as well. My LO loves story time, when MH and I talk to her, and listening to music. I always feel an increase in kicks and movement- almost like she's dancing along! She also gives some reassuring kicks when I'm upset, and it instantly calms me. I've noticed a pretty set schedule with when she is most active. However, she has a mind of her own already lol. My last ultrasound, the tech was really pushing down trying to get her to move; she didn't like that so she just started kicking the probe and turned the other way!

I'm so glad you found an OB that you feel comfortable with @Pregghers!
  • When we go to the movies, I like to think how active he is has a correlation to his opinion in the movie. More active = Loving it. So far he really liked The Big Short, but wasn't a huge fan of Joy. He seemed to like some of 13 Hours and The 5th Wave, but barely kicked at all in Daddy's Home. (We see a lot of movies. It won't last long, so we're doing it while we can!)

    So yeah, I'm probably crazy.

  • @lalala2004 We also see a lot of movies and watch series. In the Revenant he harldy did anything yesterday but when we started the new season of Shameless and the theme song started he was obviously excited. So cute! Not crazy, unless I am as well and that's also okay!
  • These are all so cute! So far my girl just loves meal time, so clearly mini-me. It's still early but I will be hoping for more of these little correlations :)

I keep telling people the baby is obviously my husband's kid because the baby LOVED Starwars. Baby was going crazy in there, though possibly concerning that the baby seems to really like the imperial March..
