So I've just realized that DS has a pretty bad lip tie, but I'm not sure who goes about correcting that. Do pediatricians? Do I need to find a pediatric dentist? ENT? It is definitely bad enough that it has to be snipped.
Start with the pediatrician. This young they can usually do it, from everything I have heard. But if not, they will be able to refer you to the right person to get it taken care of.
You will need to go to a pediatric dentist. You can get a referral from your pedi. We had our little girl's upper lip tie fixed in December. She had a bad one (class 4). I think it has helped a lot with her gas. Just a heads up though, the procedure is not covered by medical insurance (just so you are prepared for it). It's only covered by dental, which is dumb since it affects how they eat.
Google search Dr. Kotlow and you can find a lot of info about lip and tongue ties. You can also send him pics of your baby's tie and he'll let you know what he thinks. Good luck! I hope it helps.
We had our LO's revised. Be prepared to do your own research. Pedi wouldn't confirm or deny its existence and just said it wouldn't make a difference either way. We had to call all over the place trying to find someone who would even look at it. We ended up having to drive 1.5 hours to have a family dentist use a laser to revise it.
Ok, thanks everyone! His is a class 4, and interfering with bf. Also considering I still had to have mine revised when I was 15, that thing is always going to be a problem.
Our son had one and Dr. Kotlow fixed it along with his tongue tie. We had to pay out of pocket for it and submit the paperwork to our insurance company. I don't expect that we will end up getting reimbursed. It is not seen as medically necessary.
Before the procedure the baby would cry for hours in pain from gas. Since getting it fixed he has been a happy baby. It is like night and day.
I'm getting Chucks tie looked at today. Thankfully I have dental and he'll be covered. We will be doing laser. He has both lip and tongue ties. My breasts are almost empty due to bad latch. Taking fenugreek to boost supply for now.
My son had an upper lip tie and posterior tongue tie. Both of his were laser treated at 10 days old! Dr. Gaheri is a very well known ENT and lip/tongue tie specialist in the PNW & has a bunch of fantastic articles on the subject. You can comment on his page and he will refer you to a good dr. to revise your LO's tie! Goodluck. https://www.drghaheri.com/blog/

I am in your exact same shoes! I hired an IBCLC, and she had me start taking an herbal supplement called Motherlove More Milk Special Blend. I ordered it on Amazon. She is also having me pump 8 times a day until breasts are completely empty each time. Thought I would pass this info along to you!
