Short of breath already?

Anyone feeling short of breath or like their baby is already crowding their chest/lungs? I knew that would happen eventually but I didn't think it would be this early. I have only gained 4 lbs but I was overweight before getting pregnant. I'm sure this has something to do with it.

Re: Short of breath already?

  • Yes, majorly short of breath already! It's normal. We've got a lot more blood flow and our bodies and hearts are working overtime!

  • Yeah, I'm 25 weeks but have been having shortness of breath for several weeks now. Very uncomfortable!
  • All. The. Time. and I'm only 22 weeks.

  • Same here. I get short of breath just by talking or reading out loud. Also certain positions and after I eat a big meal.

This. I can barely walk across the street without getting short of breath!
  • Honestly, I've been short of breath since week 10, and I was in good shape before getting KU.
  • Yup. Big time. Walking and talking at the same time is really difficult and impossible on stairs.
  • Shortness of breath was one of my first symptoms that alerted me to being pregnant. It's gotten worse and worse and I was fit before getting pregnant too! The palpitations are also getting worse and worse. I'm very uncomfortable
  • Yup. DH told me I am breathing heavy, even when I am not doing anything.
I did contact my DR about it yesterday though just as a heads up in case they want to run screening for anemia again.

  • Yup, walking up stairs now seems like a monumental task.

  • I'm finding it really hard to take my boots off without huffing and puffing worse than the Big Bad Wolf.
  • After I carry DS down the steps...you'd think I just did major cardio.
  • Yep! My doctor said to just make sure it's not coupled with chest pain and not worry. He said if I also have chest pain with the shortness of breath get to the ER stat.

Same here (well, the first thing you said). OB said it was normal. Actually, it's gotten better recently.
  • Yep! I would say I've noticed a little difference in the last couple of weeks.

  • Everything makes me out of breath these days! I am so not looking forward to baby being in my lungs and it getting worse.
  • I've got asthma, was born with it. I've been taking my inhaler all sorts of crazy. I'll be on the phone and I notice I sound like an old smoker out of breath. I've got no clue what ill do when the baby gets all up in my lungs making it worse!
  • Yeah, I've been short of breath for about 4 months now ...
  • Since the moment I found out I was expecting. Same thing when I was pg with DD. It's normal.
  • Pretty much anything now makes it hard to breath. I planned to go into Target quickly only to soon realize it was going to take much longer because I'm not as fast as I used to be...
  • At 22 weeks, I'm huffing and puffing by the time I get to my office.  I park in a parking garage connected to my office building, and I work a few floors up.  I usually take the stairs, but I have been taking the elevator more lately because I can barely breathe by the time I get to my floor. I worked out regularly pre-pregnancy and do some light cardio still, but it is definitely getting more difficult. I'm glad I'm not alone on this!
  • Oh my gosh yes! Going up/down the stairs, drinking water, basically everything. I gave a presentation last week and I was basically out of breath the whole time!
  • Being out of breath has been the most difficult pregnancy symptom for me so far. It's been getting so bad that it's been making me very panicky at times- the feeling of not being able to breathe gives me terrible anxiety. I hope I'm able to figure out a way to deal with it since I've got 16 more weeks to go!!
  • I had to tell about 40 students about our new active shooter training at school, and OF COURSE that's when I get short of breath. I'm not crying kids, I'm not emotional, I'm just pregnant.
  • I am 25w4d and I have been feeling short of breath for at least 10 weeks or so. Nothing quite like tonight though, just woke up panicking because I couldn't breathe. I have a cold and it is difficult to breathe through my nose AND mouth and I woke up in full-on panic mode. I'm scared to go back to sleep now, but I know it's just my anxiety making things 100x worse
  • Apparently I even breath heavily when sleeping:-)
Thank God I never need to tie my shoes as I live in a sandal climate:-) I would be dammed. Bending over is soo uncomfortable :-)

  • I've been breathing hard for several weeks, maybe since week 18, for EVERYTHING! Walking, stairs (why did we buy a house with 3 levels), sleeping (he recorded me), drying off, lol. I've caught DH looking at me smirking waiting for me to catch my breath when I'm trying to tell him something.

I guess I can't complain too much. I think it's my worse symptom to date.
  • I start huffing singing my girls to sleep.  Ouff!

  • The cashier at the grocery laughed at me today because I was so out of breath after putting the groceries on the belt. She asked the cart guy to help me load the bags in my cart and car.
    At least there's that perk.

  • Wow, I have asthma too, but not bad. You will know the though when the baby starts to crowd your lungs. It'll just take longer to talk or get breaths, totally different from bronchitis asthma.
  • My friend who just had a baby was just hanging out with me, and telling me all kinds of stuff about what it's like dealing with a newborn. I let out the loudest sigh ever, and she stopped and said, "I'm so sorry I'm rambling! I know this is getting really boring for you!" I was like, no - this is awesome, I'm just out of breath from standing here! I need to start being careful with my sighs I guess.
  • Yes! I'm 26 weeks and I have been dealing with the shortness of breath for a couple of months now. I find it happens more after I've eaten and everything feels crowded in there lol

This was me last week!!  I felt like I must have seemed super nervous since I couldn't breath the entire time!! I wanted to say...nope, not nervous, just pregnant!!
  • This is just the beginning gals...
