Tight, uncomfortable belly

edited January 2016 in March 2016 Moms
Hello ladies, I need some advice. I'm 34 weeks and starting last night I've had a steady, uncomfortable tight feeling in my belly. It is constant, so I don't think it's contractions but it's not easing up. I took it easy today, drank a lot of water, and ate light meals but it didn't help. Is this worth a trip to the labor and delivery to get checked out?

Edit: I forgot to say that baby is still moving like normal.

Re: Tight, uncomfortable belly

  • I stay pretty tight from here on out (like one long Braxton Hicks).   I wouldn't go into L&D unless it was coming with pain (lower back pain or cramping period pain in the front).  Do you have a nurse hotline you could put a call into?  L&D sucks.

  • i agree with @smushi, i wouldn't be going into L&D just because your tummy feels tight. if it comes with pain or baby's movements have changed, then definitely get checked. I'm at 32 weeks & my tummy feels tight all the time as well. i think it just has to do with baby getting bigger & there being less & less room in there.
  • Thank you ladies. This is a new feeling, it didn't feel like this before last night so I started to worry. I'm starting to hit that freak out stage where every change has me nervous.

i think things are going to change quite a bit from here on out. as baby gets bigger & the body starts to prepare for labour, there's a lot going on in there. try not to get too nervous about things. but if something is really concerning you, it doesnt hurt to ask your OB or call a nurse hotline.
  • My advice for you is to call your dr.! I was feeling tightening in my belly on the January 18, I thought it was nothing, but for sure I was feeling some BH contractions too, I call my dr. And I am in the hospital now ,with preterm labor! So please call and be safe, do it for your baby! It is better to be safe then sorry! I'll be praying for you! Keep us posted God bless you all
  • I agree with everyone saying to call your doctor... Also drink more water than you think.  I can't believe the amount of water I need to stay hydrated these days.  I feel like I'm on a liquid diet.
  • Def call doc but I'm having similar pain and it's my muscles. I gave it 2 days and they seemed to now be used to the growing belly and weight. Like any muscle when it's taxed, it's going to be sore at first. But still check in and call.
34 weeks is not a time to let anything go!
