zoloft

I was prescribed 25mg for my anxiety and I just took it last night and I have felt so naseous all day long and I can't eat much less hardly get off the couch.. I am 23 weeks today I am scared to keep taking it because I don't want to feel like this .. my stomach has also been cramping and I just had preterm labor on Wednesday and had to get a shot to stop my contractions which is why I started this today .. anybody have experience with this? I never had to take it before now

Re: zoloft

  • Pharmacist here: nausea is a VERY common (in fact the most common) side effect of starting Zoloft. Your pharmacist should have told you that. It can take 1-2 weeks to pass as your body adjusts to it. If it doesn't pass after 3-4 weeks be sure to let your doctor know. Unfortunately you'll just have to ride it out. Eat and drink what you can for now. If you have to stick to something simple like juice or Sprite to keep your calories up then that's what I would recommend. Obviously if you feel that it's beyond your coping ability or debilitating let the doctor know. How that helps

  • Hey there @sparkledonuts ! I'm sorry you are going through this! Obviously @ayeshaohara is the expert on this but I thought I'd also share that I had some nausea and diarrhea when I began taking Zoloft this fall. I would say it got considerably better within a week at most. For me, the discomfort was worth it because the anxiety improved with the Zoloft. I'm actually increasing my dose again to help me through the winter blues but I think the medicine is quite effective.

My best bets with the nausea were saltine crackers, ginger ale and hard lemon candies.

I hope it gets better for you!
  • @KaKip good to hear a positive experience. I'm glad it's working so well for you. It's always nice to hear from someone who has actually taken the drug too....I can give advice based on what I know but not personal experience, which plays a lot into people's comfort level knowing others have gone through the same thing. :)
  • I, too, experienced some serious nausea when going on Zoloft - probably for a solid two weeks. But then it dissipated and I've been feeling good since. Good luck!
  • I had a similar experience with another anti-depressant, and I just took it at night, which seemed to lessen the effect.

This! I too am taking Zoloft for anxiety/depression. I was on it for a few years when I was in high school, but hadn't taken it since then (switched to Prozac...yikes! Not for me!). Even with my history, I still had some nausea taking it as a pregnant lady. Taking it at night worked wonders. Also, as PP mentioned, keep your fluids up! It will help with preterm labor.

  • Definitely common, theres a whole list of side effects with zoloft, but i suggest not looking at them if you have anxiety issues.
it should go away after a few weeks
