  • I got DF a book that was short thinking he'd read it. I even put it in the bathroom! It was My Boys Can Swim! He read like 3 pages and was like Really babe? LoL!
  • @irishblessings916 I bought "Dude! You're Gonna Be a Dad!" for DH when I revealed I was pregnant to him. He has read up until the 2nd trimester but he said nothing was really ground-breaking information. "The Expectant Father" got great reviews so I bought that hoping he likes it better.

My husband read "The Expectant Father" (after I basically read it for him) and he liked it ok. I was just talking to a dad-to-be the other day and he was making fun of "Dude! You're Gonna Be a Dad" and said it was as bro-ish as the title implied.

  • I actually did read some books for my first pregnancy. If you're reading "What to Expect" I suggest skipping the entire second half of the book, as it goes into detail about every possible ailment a growing baby could have and you probably don't want nightmares for the next 8-9 months. The first half, when the baby is developing what, is fine, but that information is all over the place on the internet.

The baby (not pregnancy) book I recommend is "Baby 411"  - Not necessarily to read cover to cover, but to reference as needed.

  • Thanks @KimmySchmidt. I actually didn't get "What to Expect" because of all of the bad reviews. :)

  • @blondie080300 - I also recommend Ina May in addition to Hypnobirthing for a natural birth
  • I just bought this one....

  • That's awesome!  Not that you need any more reading, but I actually found that baby books were more helpful than pregnancy books ;)
  • If you are at all considering going natural, I highly recommend Ina May Gaskin's Guide to Childbirth. So inspiring.

  • @KimmySchmidt - Haha!! :) And thanks, everyone! I am really just trying to educate myself on not only what to expect while pregnant but also delivery options, etc. I will definitely look into all of your recommendations, @KimmySchmidt, @bookworm982, @LizC216, @RedMar , @diagonalley, @kosmo86, @0SeaMonkey0, and @PSUBecky23! :)

  • Just bought this book that gives you some information week by week about your baby's development and also includes a week-by-week prayer to pray over your baby, as well. It's the first book I ordered for myself because I know I've already been feeling a little discouraged and fearful about my pregnancy. So far it's been really sweet to read each chapter out loud to my husband (they're pretty short) ☺️ If anybody is interested in a simple, encouraging, faith-based pregnancy devotional, I'd definitely recommend this one!

  • I HIGHLY recommend "Expecting Better" by Emily Oster. She goes through a lot of research on conventional pregnancy wisdom and it calmed me way down as a FTM. I'll definitely be reading it again this time.

Love this! You've inspired me to get a few books of my own. I love the idea of the prayer through pregnancy!

I am currently fascinated by "The Pregnant Body Book" (I love learning the science behind the baby-making and to be able to see images of how the baby grows each week). I am also happy with "The Kind Mama" and the "The Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy". I started reading "Belly Laughs" but can't really relate much and it isn't that funny to me so I will probably wait until further along in my pregnancy to pick it back up. I still have to start the others.
