High-Risk Pregnancy

Nasal bone

Today at mfm for my 38 week growth ultrasound my baby's nose looks really flat and wide. Nothing was said. My 2nd trimester screen blood work came back for downs but the more intense ultrasound showed everything ok, checked out 95% everything was ok so I turned down amnio. I guess what I'm asking is if there was a abcense in nasal bone I would have more than likely been told at my 20 week scan or even today at my 38 correct?

Re: Nasal bone

  • If they were concerned they most likely would have said something especially since you had a higher risk. Try not to self diagnos on your own ultrasound you will drive yourself crazy if they found any soft markers or anything alarming they would have mentioned it. I had a scare with ds for downs when he was measuring small and had tons of u/s for growth and was constantly analyzing them. I also thought my ds nose looked unusual and I convinced myself he only had four fingers. Anyway he turned out fine all fingers and a cute button nose! He did come early due to pre-e which played a little part in his size but he's a wild tot now. Enjoy your last weeks of pregnancy and congrats!

  • @killysmum23 thank you and your absolutely right I have driven myself crazy. I'm 38 weeks and her head is measuring 39.5 and her abdomen is measuring 39. And her femurs are right on track at 38 so googling that and the nose I've worked myself up. Of course I will love her no matter what. Just scary especially since most downs has other issues. Just praying she's healthy.
  • I know what you mean I had a rough pregnancy it is scary when there is a possibility of something being wrong and you definitely will live her no matter :) . You just have to trust and hope for everything to be ok :) when I had my scan the soft markers they found and that made him small were short femurs and humerus so I don't remember much about the other markers. I do know that in some cases they don't find any and in most there are usually multiple markers. You might just have a bigger baby:) they had me soo worried and ot turned out he just had tiny legs and he's 16 months now and still does!! Did they offer you the maternit21 test? That's what I had still a screening but mor accurate and not as invasive just blood work. Its would be pointless for you to get it now since results can take time but just curious.
  • Yea they said sometimes babies just are bigger. So I'm just having faith she's healthy. And no I had never heard of that test until I read about it on here and googled it. I wish I would have known sooner.
  • Hang in there... Don't know if this is comforting or not, but all of the professionals you've seen are required to disclose if they believe there could be an issue - for malpractice reasons. The only things that don't apply are the elective scans since there's no doctor monitoring results and measurements. If they saw something to be concerned about, they would disclose. Doesn't mean they can't miss it, but they look at these all day. Don't stress too much. They wouldn't hold back if they saw it.
