Headphones for crying.

Ok, so my LO has just been diagnosed with silent reflux. So, many times after she eats, she screams for an hour stright. Thats if we can force her to eat...she literally hates us when we try to feed her. Poor baby. Anyways. Today I was cleaning up and listening to my music with headphones. Sure enough the 30 min mark after her feed came and she had a meltdown. I was just about to take my headphones out and pick her up but instead I just picked her up as my music was blasting away! It was awesome. I was singing and dancing with her around the house, she calmed down and I didn't get stressed because I could barely hear her crying through my music. Is that bad of me? I mean I'm holding and comforting her but enjoying my music at the same time. Lol. Idk but I've decided when she gets that way I'm going to get my headphones out while I'm comforting her.

What do you guys do to pull you through the crying spells???

Re: Headphones for crying.

  • The best thing you can do is remain calm because baby can sense your tension. So if headphones works for you, then keep wearing them.

My little girl likes shushing/singing and walking around to look at new things when she's upset.

  • I don't think that's bad at all. If it kept you calm hen it's perfect. If they're going to cry anyway you may as well at least be happy.

White noise as loud as it can get makes my guy happy. He quiets down and passes out in minutes.
  • I don't use headphones, but singing keeps me from getting frustrated, and it calms Jane, too. Win, win. Glad you found something that works for you! Poor baby. That reflux sounds awful. :-( Do you give her cold milk? I hear it feels better going down.
  • If it works then got for it! I don't think it's bad at all!
  • As long as you're able to respond to her and it keeps you calm, I say go for it.

Thanks ladies. It just made me feel a little guilty listening to music while she was in pain. But, i mean i cant taje the pain away so at least we xan dance it out. Lol Yes, she can definitely since when I get frustrated. I do sometimes not because she's crying but because I know she's in pain and I hate seeing her like that. She likes singing and being walked around as well as me putting her cheek up against my cheek. My husband laughs when I do that because she looks exactly like me. I haven't tried white noise yet but maybe I will???? And cold milk!!! Why haven't I heard this before. It makes so much since. I warm the milk alot!!! Maybe I'll try it next bottle. Cold milk won't give her gas or something?

Cold milk doesn't give babies gas and it helped my DD1.

  • Jane drinks all her milk straight from the fridge. According to Google, there is no benefit to warming milk beyond the baby's personal preference.
  • I rarely warm up milk. I stick a bag in warm water just to take the edge off.

And if you never warm bottles to start with they never get accustomed to warm bottles.

  • Wow...learn something new everyday! I'm going to try not to warm her bottles anymore. Idk though because it's hard to get her to take them at room temp. But we will start little by little. Thanks guys! Maybe that'll make her reflux a little less painful too. Awesome.
