Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Leaky diapers... What am I doing wrong?!

We use Bambo Nature diapers. Size 3. We've been using them for some time now and over the past few weeks my son has had leaks almost every day. When he poops I notice the poop gets in the ruffled part of the diaper (pic) he isn't having super watery poops or massive poops (EBF). The diapers seem to be the right size. What gives?

  • It be this size or style of diaper may not work for your little one. Pardon my ignorance, but I'm not familiar with your type of diaper, is it a cloth?
We use disposables, we tried luvs and they leaked like you are describing. Of course, Pampers is what works for him (why is it this kid likes the expensive ones?)

  • What the hell are Bambo Nature diapers?!

I know people love to use organic diapers and I have tried a couple different ones but from my experience they don't hold up at all. Huggies are the shit. They hold the shit. I'm betting it's the type of diaper you are using. Some people swear by Target brand diapers but I find that those leak as well. Nothing works as good for me as Huggies.

  • I say feed baby organic food and let them shit in pampers. Any disposable diaper is going to sit in a landfill forever anyway. I recycle my plastic formula containers and consider that doing my part lol. I tried luvs and they suck, you get what you pay for. Pampers get the moisture off the skin, my baby hasn't had anything more than slight redness to his butt at times and he has very sensitive skin.
  • European brand. I live in Italy but they sell them @ babiesRus too. He's been using them for months and just started having this issue. Gonna try the next size up!

Sorry, I had never heard of them before so I thought maybe they were organic which I find to not be very good.
  • I use Bambo diapers, too. I love them, and they are actually rated #1 among diaper brands (from BabyGearLab https://www.babygearlab.com/Disposable-Diaper-Reviews). They are eco-friendly and sensitive on LO's skin.

To OP -- you may want to try going up a size (which it sounds like you're already going to try). Make sure you're also pulling out the little leg ruffles. GL!
  • Thanks!! I don't pull on the Ruffles, oops! Doesn't help LO has been having watery poops lol. I'll try this then going up a size!

@missdaccortezz I made that mistake many times, too... that and not realizing little boys need to have their privates pointed downwards... my sister (a nanny) and my husband were both like "you didn't know that?!" haha

With that said, we do still occasionally have leaks, but I've tried other brands (especially when out of Bambos), and we've had leaks with everything we've tried! I think it just comes with the territory.
