Pack n Play Bassinet

https://m.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=45476346

Hey ladies! I asked this on the baby gear board, but it's pretty dead over there. H and I bought this last weekend as our primary sleeper (until we move a couple months post baby). It includes a stand alone reversible napper and bassinet. Our plan was to use the bassinet in our small bedroom until we set up a nursery in the new house, but while assembling it, I noticed that it had a warning that it's not for unsupervised or prolonged sleep. I'm not sure if this is meant for the napper or the bassinet and napper.

It looks like it meets all the right requirements. Mesh sides, firm flat surface, not really any corners to get stuck in... But I'm not sure if it's just meant to be a different style napper. What do you think?

Re: Pack n Play Bassinet

  • I just watched the video in the product description and it says its for nightime sleeping. Seems like if baby will be in your room while sleeping in the basinet you're all set.

  • ... All this time and I didn't realize there was a video. Now I feel like an idiot. Anyway, if anyone is looking for a good multi functional sleep solution, this one assembled really easily and had all the things we wanted.

    Thanks @Chuggs13.

  • So I'm glad you brought this up because I too was concerned a bassinet like this might not be for overnight sleeping. My friend who is going to be a third time mom brought up a good point and said when they are newborns they may never be asleep for that long. Maybe four hours if lucky. I think given that information it might be okay, but I'm hoping other STM's might weigh in on this.

  • We had one similar to that but it didn't come with bassinet. I used my old bassinet for day to day use and then when we traveled I used the pack n play. It had like a suspended area for when they are little If that makes sense? It looks awesome! And really they won't be in a bassinet for that long.
  • @TwoBadMice this has that too, but we have a small bedroom so the entire pack n play would take up too much space. The little portable bassinet fits perfectly however. And even if she grows out of it quickly (hopefully not before we move) we can still use the napper side.

  • @meggyme we still use ours! I think it's a good investment even if only use the attachments for a week, my 2 year old is big and he's just not starting to grow out of the play yard (still used for a travel bed).
  • We had a very similar one we used for the first few months since we were in a one bedroom apartment. DS did just fine

  • Bassinets are for small babes who likely won't be sleeping a whole night ;) Fourth-time mom here. I say go for it!

We have always used an old antique cradle for our newborns but are going on a trip when our fourth will be about 5 or 6 weeks old ( I know-- not the most exciting prospect!! Me, DH, a 7 year old, 3 year old, almost 2 year old, and newborn in a hotel room for three nights.... Yikes!) and are needing to buy a bassinet (Brica Travel Bassinet) to take with us. Our almost-2 year old will be in a PnP, with newborn in the bassinet. In our experience, our babies seen to like routine, so we'll be using the bassinet from Day 1 to prep Babe to sleep peacefully in it (hopefully!) while on our trip. :) We'll see!

  • We have that pack and play from dd2!!! Love it. My only gripe is that the mobile doesn't go anywhere on the bigger play pen. I have big big babies so dd outgrew it in weight quickly. I love this pack and play though!

Baby will be fine sleeping in it at night.

  • I like the travel-ability of the little bassinet too. We'll be moving cross country a couple months after she's born, and not having to lug and set up the whole pack n play every day is appealing. I just hope she stays small enough to sleep in the portable bassinet long enough for us to get out there. Thanks ladies!

Any other small space nursery suggestions?
We're planning to only register for things we'll need immediately and nothing extraneous. We've only got a 912 sq ft, 2 bedroom house to work with for now.

  • I am in love with this product!!! It is the only one with a bassinet that seems to be safe for sleep. I hate the newborn napper things in most of them - it's almost like they make them unsafe on purpose. Grrr. Anyway this is one of my dream products, DD was in the pnp in our room for about 4 months and I loved it. Plus I didn't have to spend money on a bassinet that is literally useful for 3 months max. We used the pnp until almost 3 for traveling.
