Morning sickness - acupressure/acupuncture?

I'm 9 weeks and have been really struggling the past 4 weeks with all day extreme nausea. It's hard to eat or drink anything! I'm sure I'm not alone but has anyone tried acupuncture or acupressure? None of the ginger/b6/crackers/lemon remedies are working for me! Thank you :)

Re: Morning sickness - acupressure/acupuncture?

  • I do acupuncture for pain. If you do it make sure they are not doing pressure points that can induce.

I do acupunture to help with the morning sickness. It makes the nausea bearable and I don't throw up anymore. The only acupunture points for nausea are on your wrist, in the same spot a seaband would press, which doesn't induce, so you should be fine. Even still at 9 weeks, it's doubtful that an induction point would be triggered anyway, but your acupunturist should know. Speak with whomever you choose to see and tell them what you're experiencing. Good luck!

  • Yes, I do acupuncture and think it's helped.  I go to a provider specializes in fertility (I had been seeing her throughout medicated IUI cycles), and she typically sees pregnant women weeks 6-10ish and then starting again at week 35 to prepare for labor.  I feel like I have more of an appetite and can keep things down better after a treatment.  She also had good suggestions, like sipping liquids (I had been so focused on staying hydrated, I didn't realize that downing so much liquid all at once was making me feel worse).  My provider does wrist, ear, and shin points in 1st tri.

I also have Sea Bands, which are acupressure bands.  I actually bought them when I had stress-related nausea over the summer, and they have not been helping me as much now as they did then.

  • Chiropractic could be another option many swear by it as our bodies change and shift so much they say it can be very helpful for managing pain and realigning things.

My chiropractor did acupuncture with his adjustments and it was a good combination and worked for me.

  • I only take my bands off to sleep. If I forget to put them back on in the morning, I can tell lol
  • I just started using the sea bands and they work great. However after a while they hurt from the pressure on the point.
