New Here! Fertility treatments and costs question

Hello, I'm new here.  I have been on clomid since October, and this month is my last month of doing a round.  I'm taking 100 mg of it, and did the 20 day progesterone check and that has helped me ovulate. Yay! :) So, my Dr. said this would be my last month of taking clomid.

Back story..... 6 years ago, trying to get pg with our son, Brody, we took clomid and did two rounds of Ovidrel.  We successfully became pg on the 2nd round.  Back then, the ovidrel was around $400 a shot...

I'm wondering how much it is now? Anyone use this?  We're just trying to save up for next month, I'm 34 and we are really hoping to get pg soon.  Any advice or help is much appreciated.

Thanks!  And good luck to you ladies!

Re: New Here! Fertility treatments and costs question

  • Hi!! I'm not sure of the exact cost of ovidrel, but I'm pretty sure it was less than $400. I think i paid in the high 200's?
    Good luck!

Welcome and goodluck! Costs could fluctuate yearly I would contact your insurance to see if you have a cost or call the pharmacy to see what the cost is without insurance so you get a correct figure. My insurance covers my medication but I have a $10 copayment for each and the receipt said $300 retail.

  • Cash retail price is somewhere around 130-150. I just paid 120 with insurance discount (my deductible hasn't been met yet). Way cheaper than my Humolog which cost 525 with discount.

  • My RE has us use Freedom Fertility Pharmacy and also had us apply for Compassionate Care (if approved, they offer 25%, 50% or 75% off fertility drugs if your insurance doesn't cover them).  I'm pretty sure it was under $150 for our Ovidrel which was a lot more reasonable than i was expecting!

  • We use Ambulatory Care out of Rockville, MD, and my cost was around $40 for the shot, and another $10 to ship it.  Really reasonably priced.  I think our RE's office has worked out costs with them along with the Rx company.
  • I got ovidrel for about $120 from a local specialty pharmacy in Atlanta, Encompass.

  • This time I used Conception pharmacy and the ovidrel was 99.50 for a 250/mcg/0.5 ml syringe. Walgreens specialty is $143.93 per. So I switched.
  • Those are out of pocket prices.
  • I get my ovidrel from MDR pharmacy. Because I get my follistim there too I get a discount on ovidrel and it is $88. I think without the discount it is around $130. These are cash pay no insurance prices. I don't know what your insurance situation is but my is a 50% infertility benefit including medications. However pharmacies bill insurance at such a higher rate than cash pay patients that it is actually cheaper for me to pay the full cash pay price than to pay my 50% copay with insurance. Always make sure you ask about all your options because using insurance is NOT always best.
  • The only reason I use my insurance is because that cost goes toward my deductible and out of pocket.  After my deductible is met, I pay a max of $50.00 and once I reach my out of pocket, I pay nothing.  I think this year I will meet my deductible by the beginning of February lol.
