Ladies on Progesterone

Guys. I am taking the vaginal suppositories of progesterone and I CANNOT. STOP. EATING. I was so healthy before I started it and now I am starving all the time. I ate 6 pieces of pizza at my son's birthday dinner last night. I am disgusted. Lol and I'm also falling asleep CONSTANTLY. Barely functioning!! Anyone else?? Any suggestions?

Re: Ladies on Progesterone

  • I'm taking progesterone as well but I didn't link the hunger to the medication. I figured I'm more hungry because of the baby. Don't feel too terrible-I ate 8 perogies loaded with sour cream for dinner last night! As soon as I finished lunch today I was ready for another meal

  • Oh yeah-the sleep thing is terrible too. I pass out at 8:30 every night and feel foggy all day.

  • I am so dizzy it makes me nauseous. I haven't really been able to eat anything either.

But.... I'm moody right after I take it and I fall asleep right awayZ

  • I never thought the progesterone was contributing to my hunger but yes, I am always starving! I am kind of sad that I cannot tell what is a pregnancy symptom or a side effect of the progesterone.  :/

  • I feel nauseous when I'm taking the vaginal suppositories.  I've taken prometrium orally to jump-start a period and it affects me much differently when taken orally.  Super hungry and so drowsy/sleepy.  Like, a little bit drunk kind of drowsy lol.

  • It just makes me soooooo tired!
  • I'm way more nauseous this pregnancy than last and I've often wondered if it's because of the progesterone.  I'm definitely tired as well but I actually remember being worse last time in that regard so who knows.  Despite the nausea, I definitely get the super hunger at the same time.  Such a strange sensation...being extremely hunger and awfully queasy at the same time.  Sometimes food helps, sometimes it makes it worse.  I can't win.  Other than the healthy (FX) baby growing in my belly.  That part is good.  :)

  • I agree with the exahustion. The hunger not so much. But I contribute that to being pregnant. The side effect that I notice the most is that I occasionally have cervix pain from the suppositories irritating things.

@MrsJeanieBean I can tell you, I took the suppositories until 13 weeks when pregnant for DD and morning sickness and being so tired went away before I stopped using them (and sore boobs continued the entire pregnancy). That always made me think most of my pregnancy symptoms were indeed pregnancy related and not progesterone related.

  • I'm going with the hunger just generally being part of the pregnancy. I'm actually less hungry this time (taking suppositories) than I was the first time I was pregnant(no suppositories). We are growing tiny humans. That takes a ton of energy and as a result makes us hungry and tired.

The big reason a lot of early pregnancy symptoms subside around 12-13 weeks is because that's when the placenta starts to really take over with the hormones.
  • I fully agree that progesterone is the best sleeping pill! Dh is mad because I'm winning snore wars now. I've been hungry more often but battling heartburn so that keeps me from stuffing my face all the time.
  • @tigerfish227 - grow placenta, grow! (I promise I won't eat you postpartum if you hurry up and grow!)
  • I've been using natural progesterone cream from "now" topically and I haven't noticed any weird side effects. :)
  • I was on suppositories w/ pregnancy for DC1, but oral progesterone this time. No nausea yet (but terrible nausea w/ DC1) and not voraciously hungry yet. I know it's coming though!
