Dry skin or something else???

Ok so I know a lot of us are having problems with dry skin lately, but im wondering if anyone else is having this sensation and if it may be due to me retaining water as well. The past few days my socks having been driving me crazy. When I take them off you can see perfect imprints of them which has never been the case before. It also itches so insanely bad. Last night when I got in the bath they actually kind of started burning. I've been moisturizing like crazy but nothing helps and my skin does not look or feel dry. It starts at my ankle bone and goes up about 5-6 inches. Anyone else experience this? Wondering if it's time to start watching my salt intake???? Maybe I'm just going crazy lol.

  • When you go to your next appointment I would mention all of that and see what they say. What are you using to moisturize?

  • Sounds like pitting edema.  You're retaining a lot of fluid.  Talk to your doctor/midwife.  Some swelling, especially if you're on your feet a lot, is normal, but you want to check to be sure.  And yes, itching & tenderness come with the territory.  Try elevating your feet (meaning ideally above the level of your heart, like on the couch) a couple times a day for 10 or 20 minutes, and see if that helps.
  • ^^ everything @Rosehip15 just said!
  • Also agree with @Rosehip15! I had pitting edema with DS and they had me do a 24 urinalysis and monitored for pre-e and other things. I just ended up having to do a low sodium diet, keep my feet up, drink tons of water, and a little bed rest. Def mention it to your dr next time.

  • Thanks ladies!! I've been using coconut oil and my palmers. I will cut back my salt, put my feet up and take it from there. My next appointment is not until February 8 but if it gets worse before that I will call. Really appreciate your input!!!
  • If it doesn't improve with putting your feet up, etc., I would call your doc to be sure they don't want to see you sooner.  Also, just be cautious with cutting back salt and fluids in case your blood pressure is running low (very common in second trimester).  If you feel dizzy, especially when getting up quickly, it's probably on the low side.  Definitely stay hydrated.
  • I would listen to pp and call doctor. They may want to see you sooner just to make sure you're healthy.
My legs itch all day and I have some minor swelling on days I work, but I'm literally on my feet for over 13 hours straight

  • Thanks again ladies. Yesterday was not quite as bad but I'm going to call my ob's office today and see what they think. Better safe than sorry.
  • I'm itchy all over my feet get really itchy too . I put oil on once and day and lotion on once a day which helps a lot but I still get itchy. Good advice from the ladies above

Jealous that you've never had this before. This is par for the course (even not pregnant) on days where I stand for hours and hours. Get some compression socks.
